1. And... we're back. You'll notice that all of your images are back as well, as are our beloved emoticons, including the infamous :foo: We have also worked with our server folks and developers to fix the issues that were slowing down the site.

There is still work to be done - the images in existing sigs are not yet linked, for example, and we are working on a way to get the images to load faster - which will improve the performance of the site, especially on the pages with a ton of images, and we will continue to work diligently on that and keep you updated.

    Thanks again everyone.

Yeah JM I had a good night sleep last night and should tonight too. I get to stay at the hospital tomorrow night and then we are home Tuesday, so tonight may be the last night of good sleep! But with the business and work I'm used to not much these days, though I'm sure this will be a whole 'nother level. All good though and both the girls are great.

    Cheers guys
    Jason

Think I am going to place an order online with Howard Yount soon and wondered if anyone had any comments on their products, trousers specifically? From my research it seems they do not do 'vanity' sizing so I have compared the measurements to my P Johnson trousers. If memory serves tobiasj is a big fan and maybe others (have tried to use the search function but sometimes it is not really much use).

Also thinking of ordering something from Ovadia and Sons too.

Any feedback on either brand appreciated.

PS yes, thebrownman should have add about trying to get your head around the 4 C's.

    Hi everyone,

I am new to these forums. Just wondering, for shoe care, can you purchase Saphir Renovateur in Australia? More specifically in Brisbane, or aussie/international any stores that post? I had a go looking online as well, but didn't have luck finding a place that posts the product here.

If not, any good alternatives that you may use that we can purchase locally? Thanks in advance!

Wanting a fabric that I will actually wear around the place though generally looking for some good places for pants besides the usual azzaro, Rl, Herringbone, Mjbale

I have a few HY trou and they are fantastic. I have the Italian cut and sized up and took the waist in as they are pretty slim. I've not tried it yet but I suspect I could wear my true size in the American cut. Be prepared to be patient as there seem to be some delays with shipping, he's like me with a day job in the way.

The cloakroom should, or at least be willing to order it in. Expensive tho. Online is cheaper but I forget where the best option is so I'll let someone else chime in.

Thanks Jason. Oh and by the way, your deliveries are always the fastest. But noted on the possible wait.

Need to build up my odd trousers collection so thinking one summer weight pair from HY and one winter weight from Ovadia and Sons. Both in shades of grey.

I have a pair of HY grey flannel trousers and they are quite nice. Quality is excellent and the fit (Italian cut, not the American cut) is slim without being skinny. When I compare to my Epauet trousers they are pretty much on par. I did an experiment the other night and took photos comparing the two as I felt the Epaulet trousers fit better but the pictures told a different story with the HY trousers being much neater in the seat and upper leg. I have a light grey brushed twill pair on their way as we speak.

I'm not sure the cut would flatter a more generous gentleman but that aside I don't really think you could go wrong.

What I know (or care) about ring buying would fit inside a ring and written in Texta. I've never bought an an engagement ring. Never been engaged. I'm used to people discussing together if they want to live together or get married or whatever. I've never understood one person asking.

I've always considered the jewelry/watch industry and diamonds in particular to be a case study of marketing triumph over substance. But thats just me.

    Anyway Carry on.....

A fine pair of shoes are good for Saphir. There was a French place too but the name escapes me. Also The Hanger Project. Think it depends on the size of your order where is cheapest. For me A fine pair of shoes worked out best.

Might be worth checking if people want to place a group order. And as an ongoing thing if anyone is ordering from a fine pair of shoes I would love a pair of FLAT waxed laces in brown and black (will pay of course).

I am a very generous gentleman. Or at least I try to be.

(I know what you meant and thanks for the review).

    Yessir, that's right.

Yessir, I do have a pair of penny loafers. I got them for a song at the Edward Green factory store in Northampton (Go bananas: http://bit.ly/WQF9im).

That city is worth a visit if you're in London - it's a nice, short(ish) drive from the city too. Here's a helpful link: http://www.northamptonshireleather.com/pdf/factory-shoe-shop-directory.pdf

Remember to take note of the opening hours for the different factories.

The Florence outlets are great for Car Shoe / Tod's driving shoes.

I personally quite like the shoes from Mannina in Florence. Ive got a pair of snuff suede brogues from there and my wife had two pairs of shoes made - nothing like knowing and meeting the guy that makes your shoes :)

From memory I think a jar of cream polish at Double Monk is $22. Really good price I think. If you are only buying small quantities it makes buying local make sense.

I agree with you - I wanted to know the basis for his statement.

Saphir suede cleaner sells for $25 at DM and $22 at Leffot and Hangar Project not including postage. How exactly is the local merchant ripping all of us off?
