Thanks Prof. B. and others for your feedback and I'm happy to agree with every word you say. Be assured we are aware of the shortcomings of our website. I even wrote a BLOG POST about it. Where not altogether new having recently celebrated our second birthday and thinks to ever increasing sales we are lucky enough to be a profitable business so money isn't the issue either.

Plans have been afoot for a while for a new website the issue is that nobody can give us an effective way of doing it. We are completely different to other online suit retailers most of whom are little more that fronts for the big Asian suit factories. We source our own higher quality fabrics and rather send our orders to be machine made in a factory we use real tailors to make our suits.

If you look at the average online suit retailer they have one basic suit and one range of fabrics with usually 20 to 30 choices of colour and pattern.

We have 11 different tailors on our roster, over 600 different suiting fabrics of varying grades and five different standards of tailoring. Trying to put all that together in a simple website format without compromising what is proving to be a very successful business plan is highly problematical.

Luckily for us, for those who take the time to learn how to navigate the site they quickly learn they can buy a far better suit which is extremely good value for money.Accordingly I have customers coming back time and time again.

So yes we will improve the website, the money for the project is there and allocated however we're not going to try a do a quick fix. The new website will set the tone of the company for many years and until we find the right formula we will persevere with the old one. It does work as our increasing sales every month clearly show. You may be interested to know that even though we are based in Australia only a third of our sales go to Australian based customer with the bulk going to North America and Europe and surprisingly even some to Asia

and yes it is self measure although we strongly recommend you have it done professionally

CBD David Jones Ralph Lauren has Garrison fit suit in POW check. First time I've seen that fit in the flesh; those lapels are knockout biiig.

Whilst I love the look of them on the rack, I think if you're like me and not skinny in any sense of the word, big lapels like that just don't look right. What do guys like P Johnson suggest in regards to lapel size and body shape?

^^Good to see you're thinking about the site design, it is a bit difficult to navigate, but I think the color scheme and fonts are a huge issue as well, and probably a pretty quick fix.

I really think you could improve your site by 20% instantly by getting rid of the black and silver theme and background. Change it to white, ecru, mauve... ANYTHING. Then change the font settings to something a little more modern. Surely this would only take an hour or so. As said, black connotes images of shadiness and dodginess. It reminds people of porn or warez sites.

I have a prl Garrison fit suit in grey flannel. Not to sure about your fit critique. The lapels are not that large IMO considering 2b setup. The jackets are also quite long. I haven’t worn mine yet – quite baggy. Needs chest, waist and sleeves taken in.

Bunny - the Loake Royales are a well regarded old UK mod/suedehead etc classic. There is some inevitable debate as the whether the current Loake Royales are as good /look as good as the old ones but as you'd expect opinions vary and the consensus seems to be they are still "a very good shoe"**

If you already have a pair of Meerkats why not get their brogue?? You know the fitting etc why buggerise around with another brand and supplier. Both Pediwear and Herring are fine for shipping and service - no need to "test" them. Order Friday night while drunk or having a choof, like everyone else does, and by Wednesday they''ll be on your doorstep.

I'm not sure where you live but I see a fair few Florsheim Imperials (nearly always black) , some the originals v cleat, in reasonable nick at the vintage places for around $60.

** I think they might be polished/binder/ split leather - thats not as horrifying as some forumites would have you believe - just depends on what it is you want.

Exactly my thoughts and relatively simple to do in the hands of a professional.

just did my thrifting for the day. didn't find anything, but saw this nice old school country road tweed jacket in a 40. from recollection it was only $5. happy to grab it for someone + posting (otherwise i'm in sydney so pick up is OK). tried to get a proper photo with accurate colour but couldn't - it looks a tiny bit more golden irl.

    Hi Simon,

Good to see you n here as an affiliate, I'll reply to your email when I'm back from my honeymoon.

I know you have mentioned the site in the past and acknowledged it needs fixing, this really should be your top priority at the moment, as you can see by the responses it's clearly turning people off buying from you. I'd recommend looking at the cottonwork website as a guide to a nice clean site that has an automated ordering process. Being honest, people don't care how many tailors you use etc, they just want it as simple as possible and this is the whole essence of buying online, making it as easy as possible for the customer.

Biggest thing you need to fix though, and this translates through to your site as well is to find away to say what you need n a hell of a lot less words, like about a 5th of what you are writing now. Looking at your opening post on the affiliate thread, it's like a novel! People will just turn off after a few paragraphs if they can see 10 more coming up. Hope that helps constructively. Time for a fish!

Lapels depend on your ego and not your body shape;)

Lino wears his peak lapels widish (not as big as Lapo) and isnt exactly skinny but he pulls it off well

+1 less words .. infact if you cant say what you need to in 3 key points then the message will get lost ... use banners with a word or small phrase to convey the message and link to an FAQ somewhere hidden. Don't scare people off before they even get to the checkout.

There are plenty off the shelf options for a cleaner website layout and its an ever evolving feast.. ive got a list as long as my arm for things id like to fix but just have to keep chipping away

I just ordered the Beijing Collection 'Back to work' package from elitesuits.com w/full canvas upgrade for $999. I'm happy to post pics and a review once they're received.

I tried doing the measurements myself at first, and I'm pretty sure I stuffed them up completely. One of the elitesuits employees got back to me and basically told me to redo them, because they'd identified areas that clearly needed re-measuring. I went into a local clothing alterationist and just asked them to take all the measurements for me. I've sent them off, and now just waiting to hear back.

The customer service has been great. Looking forward to receiving.

    Also, +1 for www.thetiebar.com.

+1 good initiative and hope it goes well. Was exhausted reading the site after 1 minute, things flashing at me and all that black - looked almost seedy. Clean, simple and effective - http://www.robertold.co.uk/ & perhaps http://www.degeandskinner.co.uk/

Dont need to have every last detail. If your sold on the black at least have a look at G Yao -http://www.gordonyao.com/en_index.asp Simple, elegant, informative without exhausting the reader.

Then again, there are people on here much better informed of this type of thing.
