For me this means no OTC socks. OTCs catch all my trousers leaving them much to short and spoiling the lines somewhat. Unfortunately I discovered this retrospectively. Thankfully I only wasted ~$50 or so on Gold Toe OTCs. I've ordered some smartwool mid calfs, fingers crossed they stay up.

^^ What do you recommend for wool mid calfs that will stay up? As I said I have ordered some smartwools to try out and will probably get some pantharellas from H.C. to test out as well. I like a reasonably thick sock.

Must be the only person who wears OTCs without a problem. Must be the skinny guinea legs.

My Pantherella's are fairly thin I must admit, bought for our climate I guess. I may do some thicker pure cashmere ones for next winter but they wouldn't be everyday socks. Anyway to the point of mid-calves staying up, they don't/wont. Mid calf socks will all eventually fall down during the day. Just gravity playing it's part really. It may not be an issue with small calves/skinny legs, but years of cycling put that to bed for me. I see pulling my socks up every now and then just as one of those things you do in private during the day (along with fixing your tie and pocket square).

You can't go wrong with wool Pantherella socks. I'm building up my collection of them now.

easier to wear them higher if they taper more too - no good having short bell bottoms:)

That's why with any new P Johnson commissions, I'm going to request more leg room i.e. less of a taper.

Just 'image google' sock suspender and you will see the (many) problems with this otherwise practical accessory
