    FYI:

A widespread major infestation of locust nymphs is developing in New South Wales, eastern South Australia and northern Victoria. Hatchings commenced in early September in northern New South Wales and in mid-September in South Australia, northern Victoria and western and central west New South Wales. Hatchings continued throughout the month and by the end of September high density nymphs and hopper bands were recorded in the Darling, Central West, Western and Lachlan Livestock Health and Pest Authority (LHPA) areas of New South Wales, the Northeast and Murray Valley regions of South Australia and Northwest Victoria. Hatchings will continue in October and widespread high density nymphs are expected to develop in these areas and in the New South Wales Riverina and North Central Victoria.

The October-November outlook is for the nymphal infestation of locusts to continue in these regions and be followed by swarm formation beginning in late October in northern areas, through to late November in southern infested areas in South Australia and Victoria. The plague situation, where numerous regions across several states are affected by high densities of locusts, could continue during summer if there is a high level of nymphal survival in spring.

Hi all - first post here, hope it's not out of place.

I'm in a unique position, in that I need to basically entirely refresh my wardrobe, due to significant weight loss. For the past 10-15 years I've only really shopped at Kingsize Menswear in Perth, as they were the only store that had anything in my sizes.

Now I'm on the search for quality though not overpriced menswear basics (trousers, belts, suits, sportscoats etc) in Perth? Where does everyone go? Parkers is entirely out of my price range. Barlows etc seem to all sell cheap quality gear with a high price. Is there anything other than DJ's sales?

Congrats on the weight loss and welcome to the forum.

I'm relatively new to Perth, but it seems pretty sparse shopping wise. I tend to buy most of my clothes offshore now. You could try Howard Yount, an SF affliate... he has some very nice trousers, belts etc for a good price.

Having said that, Philippe Perzi are having a closing down sale. They do shirts, suits and ties. Might be worth a look (they're in London Court)

Cheers for the tip John, I'll check out Philippe Perzi this week.

I've been eyeing the range of wool trousers on Howard Yount, though I'm concerned they might be too heavy in weight for the Perth summer.

No worries. I wouldn't recommend his winter weight trousers in a Perth summer! He has some tropical wool trousers on sale though from the US summer that's just finished... link

Can anyone suggest the best place to find a really nice, plain polo shirt? What I'm after is something along the lines of the navy blue Sunspel Riviera polo that Daniel Craig wore in Casino Royale. I'm after something in Sydney (which I make fairly regular trips to), because it's kind of slim pickings down here in Canberra. Cheers

Waistcoat - if you can wait a little, buy a sunspel when they go on sale for christmas. You wont be satisfied with anything else. Trust me.

I've a general query; do you care when people notice?

For example, I was at my local DJ's a while back wearing a TF suit, and a Rolex Datejust - while testing out some fragrances. The SA happened to see the TF tag when I was turning around and commented that it was a very nice, very expensive suit and asked where I got it (i said it was a gift) and she then proceeded to mention "nice watch, is it real?", to which I replied that it's as real as I am. I wanted to say, it's more real than that tan though XD

So do you care? Does it matter?

    On two tangents:

    a) I sprayed tobacco vanille, bois marocain and black orchid onto some tester cards - and 2 weeks later, they were still very fragrant. Holy Crap.

    b) What sort of brands are associated with success on the world stage? Mercedes-Benz, Rolex - what else?

Philippe Perzi has many shirts for $129, not many suits left. The shirts i bought from TM Lewin for $35AUD delivered seem close to the quality from Perzi.

Pants i got from Fletcher Jones, ~129 for super 100 wool. The quality of these pants feel a little better than Myers Flair pants.

My search for polos without labels led me to just buy the sunspel one online. I warn you that the sizing on the Riviera is pretty unforgiving: I'm not wearing mine until I'm closer to my 'ideal fighting weight'. Their regular ones are nice enough too but not nearly as fitted Alternatively, maybe Tailorstore?

I don't know how nice they are - although I'm sure that they are not as nice as Sunspel - but have you considered American Apparel?

I know that they used to have a store in Sydney, in the old Gowings building, and might be worth a look.

Thanks for the help MrBig, I can definitely wait the couple of months if it means a decent discount. As for your question, I'd be pretty annoyed if a sales assistant was snooty enough to ask "is it real?" What a nerve. You should have given her the remark about the tan and put her in her place....

I'd rather they noticed before they saw the label, no? 'It's expensive so it must be good' is a bit a motto of the insecure, IMHO. On the brands/success thing, in British pollie speak, 'I refer the honorable gentleman to the answer I gave some moments ago'. If, by success you mean financial success, then surely the thing about being rich is being able to get more of the things that you want/like rather than finding out what others think you should like? Doesn't mean you shouldn't educate yourself and refine your taste in clothes, food, design, etc but poncing around town trying to get the Armani Collezioni label on the inside of ones suit jacket noticed by people is a wee bit sad. (Not suggesting for one minute you do any of this, I should add. And you should have used the line about the tan - it's not bad and you may not get another chance!).
