I posted here a while back. I'm normally a streetwear guy but I'm after a basic black derby or oxford shoe for job interviews, formal occasions, etc. Previously people here recommended I go to DJs, try on the shoes, then order online. What stores do you guys use? My budget is around $200. Will I get anything decent for that price or should I stick to Florsheim until I get more money/a job? What should I look for in a shoe? My previous pair were brogues from Florsheim which cost me $150. Lasted me about three years. I don't mind paying more if it means a better construction and more beautiful shoe.

My recommendation is that you order a pair of Loake 1880 Aldwych. These are Oxfords, which are Goodyear welted and still (apparently) made in England. They would be more than suitable for a job interview and could also be worn on other, more formal occasions. You can order them from Pediwear online for 162 pounds exclusive of VAT, which I realise is a bit over your budget, plus shipping:

    http://www.pediwear.co.uk/loake/products/4991.php

You can try on Loake shoes at DJs and maybe Myer?

If you are in Melbourne you could drop by Beggar Man Thief in South Melbourne (they also have a concession at Henry Bucks now) - BMT stock Loake as well as Grenson. Their prices will be higher than Pediwear however.

I don't rate Florsheim these days, unfortunately, although you could do worse.

I'm not sure what sort of streetwear bloke you are or how many business formal occasions you go to - how formal they are and how many suits etc you have ... but - if the general answer is not many / not much then you might consider getting yourself a pair of nice black longwing brogues like the old school Florsheim Imperials - not the current crop.

There are USA second hand ones in good nick - and improved by a bit of conditioner - are available in Melbourne for around $60. They will look smart for dress ups and also work with jeans or what ever else you need them for .

These would have suited you - but I gave them away - cost $30 - size 8 I think.

If you don't look after them very well - they will only last around 30 years - .......

Oi I used to eat at Yim Yams quite often. Decent Laos/Thai food.
And for $200, why not just jump on the Meermin bandwagon?

    fritzl - you lost again?

Turn right at Vienna perhaps not left?

    What size are you?

The Florsheims I know of are more 70s and later but still V cleat - many in good nick, but not spruced up.

Postage is a bit of a killer. $70aud to EU I think - others here will know.

That Sevan Minasian, Classic Shoes might work out better for you - hes in EU isn't he?

    Have you dealt with him?

blah - if maplefuturist is mainly street /casual he wont get much use out of "dress" shoes.

I dunno - does these meerkats come in suitable brogues that will work with street/casual?

no, not lost. i'm just debating the first glas wine with me... ...hence i need easy entertainment.

turn right at Vienna leads you to burgenland. the idiots of our country. they start breakfast with wine, you know what i mean... :D

i'm size EU 44/UK 10/US 11. this is not scientific, though. we talk then. v-cleat is a must.

a fellow member quoted AUD 90 yesterday. how much is this again in real world's money?

yes, i have dealt with Dr. Minasian. he's a nice guy. i would love to be his successor. he has amazing stuff. no doubt.

i'm always happy to communicate with the world.

    yeahbut..

Not all interviews are with banks, law firms and such.

Most places, any pair of shoes that aren't scuffed and dirty will look smarter than 70% of people.

Shoes that fit, are leather and clean will look better than 99%.

You think anyone outside here cares or even knows what a plain captoe is?
