PSA (maybe?) for Adelaidians: the wife sent me a Facebook screen shot suggesting Oscar Hunt is opening up shop in Norwood soon (or maybe they're already open - I haven't looked into it).

Picked up my Zing Chen trousers via TFC last week. Turned out really nice. I opted to forego the second fitting in order to receive the trousers in time for winter (as they are woollen flannel) and the only thing I probably would have asked for if I'd had a second fitting would be a slightly closer cut above the seat.

Will have to take some pictures at some point (I don't use a smartphone).

I can now comment on some of the differences between Zing Chen and TFC Bespoke, at least for trousers.

There is a difference in the cut, between the two. TFC is cut closer in the back panel, with more room at the front and the front pieces look larger than the back pieces when viewed from the side. ZC is more 'standard' in this regard and the back panels are larger than the front.

My first fitting with TFC Bespoke was done in a basted fitting with some 'scrap' fabric and Joe stated that the first fitting focused more on the style and the second fitting moved to the actual fabric that I ordered. I am not 100% sure if this was because it was my first order, or if this is the default with all TFC commissions. The first fitting with ZC was in the actual fabric that I ordered.

My TFC trousers have handsewn buttons, buttonholes, pick stitched side pockets and hidden coin pocket, hand tacked side adjusters, handsewn bartacks, more hand finishing on the inside and much neater finishing in general. Shirting fabric is used for the waistband lining, curtain and pocketbags. Fabric selvedge is used to finish the interior of the side pockets and inside of the trouser cuff. The back pockets are cut in a way so they won't sag with use.

My ZC trousers have only have pick stitching on the side pockets, hidden coin pocket and fly curve and handsewn buttons. Everything else looks to be done by machine. Shirting fabric is used for the waistband lining and a standard white twill pocketing fabric used for the curtain and pocketbags. The interior looks much more 'factory made' than TFC. Inside of the trouser cuff is finished with fabric selvedge but not as neat as TFC. The buttonholes are all done by machine and there are some slight visual defects with the fly buttonholes.

I think there may also be a difference in which the fabric price point would incur a surcharge between the two.

I'm very happy with both pairs. Looking forward to see how they wear.

Debenhams pack up and leave Melbourne, which is the answer to the question 'what happens when you set up a new entrant in the basement of a ****** city mall'.
Was certainly one of the more misguided entrants to the Melbourne market place. Target meets Millers meets topshop slap bang in the underground of a dodgy thoroughfare. Brilliant market research.

No idea why they thought a rapidly declining department store model aimed at the slightly lower middle quality and non-style would work here when Myers is plunging downwards in value and future prospects. Debenhams has been closing stores in UK as has M&S. The middle is stuffed. But could be reinvented.

Is Rhodes and Beckett back in administration? The 80% clearance on the web (I don't think too many game to order from them again online) but in store as well was excellent value for a few off the rack items v quality.
