Does anyone have a recommendation for rugs or wood furniture?
In both scenarios, I can find really cheap options e.g. synthetic rugs & pine furniture but nice stuff all seems to be overseas with thousands in shipping costs.

Surely it's possible to still buy decent quality furniture & decor in the country??

With Rekaris moving from the city to Coburg, can anyone recommend a cobbler in the city for basics (heel replacements, taps etc)? I've been slacking on maintaining my work shoes and boots ever since COVID broke out.

Give Evans a go. Not cheap but good quality work.

Manfred’s just did a bundle of work on a few pairs of Lobbs. Surprisingly cheap and did good work. Recommend. Evans are excellent, but rather expensive And I’m generally not a miser.

My rug is from West Elm. For a pure wool rug, i thought it was very reasonable.

I have also bought some dining chairs from icon by design. Yes its imported but its solid timber. They have a showroom in melb and sydney i believe. my dining table i had made locally for which there are many options. the dining chairs were harder, hence buying online (although i viewed them instore first).

Would you wear a dark gray flannel chalk stripe suit to a semi-formal dinner function? I’m thinking white shirt, black knit and black oxfords…
Only those of us on SF think of semi-formal as black-tie. Most Australians take it to mean “not your worst pair of thongs or Crocs, but not your best pair either”.

Personally I would ask the host what their expectation is nowadays.

Northern NSW. Travel to Sydney for work & Brisbane occasionally to see ageing relatives.
At this point I'm open to anywhere in Australia. Feels like the last few decent places I knew of didn't survive COVID & either no one wants to ship here, or shipping is more expensive than the furniture.

Yep. I don’t think the host gives a crap. As long as it’s a suit. Besides, I love my chalkstripe flannel. Great in winter and versatile enough to dress up or down. Loro Piana wool and cashmere. One of the last Cavour Made in Italy suits…
