Yes, exactly - unstitch the original gauntlet, extend the slit further up the sleeve, shorten the sleeve, re-stitch the gauntlet into place, re-attach the cuff.they can move the gauntlet as well. bread and butter for any half decent tailor. youll just pay a little more for the privilege.
The only issue would be that the stitch count for the areas that are machine-stitched on Inglese shirts is extremely high, with lots of tiny little stitches. Alterations places tend to do fewer stitches per cm, so the stitches are larger. If you're not fussy about these things, then that's fine, but we're on Styleforum, where people do tend to obsess over those things...
