Does anyone know an alterations tailor who could take up short sleeves with a Neapolitan sleevehead?

I bought a G. Inglese dress shirt from NMWA and, while everything else I have from Inglese fits me almost perfectly, this one has sleeves that are about 1 1/2” too long.

Preferably looking for a tailor in Melbourne but I’m frequently in Sydney for work so that works too.

I don't know if any alterations tailors would be able to match the handwork on the shoulder... sure they can try, but the result won't be as good as it isn't something they do regularly.

Wouldn't it be easier to shorten from the cuff? Or is there shirring there as well?

The cuff isn’t shirred but is hand-attached, and it would mess up the gauntlet.

TBH I would be happy with the sleeves being taken up from the shoulder and hand-stitched, without shirring although I don’t know if that’s much easier.

Do your G Inglese shirts fail after a while? I'm 6 or so in from NMWA all cold delicate washed, never tumble dried and the stitching is failing on most of them.

I've got eight (or ten?) Inglese shirts that I bought from Deer Style here in Brisbane. I've never had any stitching fail on me, but I've noticed that the buttons aren't as securely attached as on my old Borrelli or Brooks Brothers shirts. I've had to re-attach buttons on my Inglese shirts a couple of times, particularly at the collar.

Interesting, I didn’t know you could get them in Brisbane, is that still possible?

they can move the gauntlet as well. bread and butter for any half decent tailor. youll just pay a little more for the privilege.

havent had sleeves done in a while, but i have had some basic work done at the alterations place across from the anz office on collins st docklands.
otherwise the usual suspects.

It should be - you could contact Rene at Deer Style to ask.

Yes, exactly - unstitch the original gauntlet, extend the **** further up the sleeve, shorten the sleeve, re-stitch the gauntlet into place, re-attach the cuff.

The only issue would be that the stitch count for the areas that are machine-stitched on Inglese shirts is extremely high, with lots of tiny little stitches. Alterations places tend to do fewer stitches per cm, so the stitches are larger. If you're not fussy about these things, then that's fine, but we're on Styleforum, where people do tend to obsess over those things...
