""I've been reading style forum for a while now, but I've finally now got around to making an account, and becoming a bigger part of the community! Happy to have found an Australian members group that's still active. I have a nice scope of everything menswear here is Aus, but would like to broaden my knowledge. I live in the fashionable(?) city of Canberra, and work in menswear. Greatly excited to interact with you all. Maxwell""

Dropped that hunky passage on what I thought was this thread. Embarrassed big time!
Anyhow, although this forum confuses me beyond anything else, I think I'm all set on how this works.

Howdy!

Hi, Sebastian!

You're calling me out!

I'm hesitant to say for the fear of coming across biased, or maybe copping some slack. The menswear retail sphere is a small one here in Aus! I shouldn't have really said I work in menswear. Can we pretend i just said menswear enthusiast? It'll be my secret for now, but if I drop a few outfits of the day and you'll figure it out pretty quickly! Would love to see how all you other Aussie chaps dress too!

Well Watson my powers of deduction lead me to believe that their are only three high end menswear stores in Canberra. So that definitely narrows down the culprits.

Don't worry mcfox has yet to front up at a Canberra meet up or even drop into Bent Spoke when I've been there.

Or have I?

No...no I haven't.

Gentleman,

How do you look after your suede shoes?

I'd be particularly interested in the approaches taken by those who can't easily get their hands on Saphir products (especially Super Invulner, as it's an aerosol). Or in other words, those that don't live in either Melbourne or Sydney. For those who do live in those cities, that opens the possibility of buying directly from Double Monk.

So, what are the alternatives to Saphir? Or is there a vendor who can hook me up without domestic shipping that costs as much as a can of Super Invulner? I suppose I could look into getting a bulk order to myself, but that would be overkill, I fear. Or perhaps not, depending on the shelf life of the stuff? I could buy a whole box of the stuff with a view that it could last as long as it takes to wear out my current rotation of welted suede shoes, assuming each pair is good for the next 10 years. I usually use a can or two per year.

Conceivably I'm overthinking or taking 'too much' care for my suede shoes. Perhaps I should just brush them and then clean if they happen to get soiled badly?

I welcome any opinions and feedback, so I might better consider my options.

You're not bad!
But a tad off. I don't work for a specialist menswear store. Some of the lads are old colleagues.

When has Bentspoke ever not been the place to be! Best place for fine brews and casual vibes in the city!

Do we have some other Canberra locals?

@The Ernesto
, do you use Kiwi products for your calf shoes also? And if so, for how long and with what kind of results?

I use saphir on calf shoes.

I used kiwi for years with no problems. I do prefer saphir though; personally I think it's a superior product. Also, I buy saphir to assuage my guilt after lurking in Double Monk fondling the expensive shoes.

there's a few Canberra guys here maybe 10, some more active than others. Technically I'm not one either, I live over the border in Googong but I'm in Canberra almost every day and work there too.

Haha, surely you're not guilty if you manage to walk out without making purchase of the said fondled items?

Personally I can't go in there unless I'm ready to buy a pair of shoes, because I know I simply won't be able to resist.
