Greetings

Some help please from the experts

I am looking for a austerity brogue in black. I really like the Tavistock from Crockett and Jones but my high instep makes the E fitting a bit too snug.
They end up with quite a bit of V lacing at the top.
Btw, is there an amount of space in the lacing that is too wide? I have about 3/4 inches space at the widest part.

I have tried both the Tavistock and Tavistock II to no avail. The Tavistock II is even more narrow. The only other similar shoe I know of is the Edward Green Beaulieu. Its a great looking shoe but I would have to special order it in my size and I can't justify the price for a black shoe. I already have 2 pairs of EG in black.

Is there any other similar shoe someone can suggest ? Hopefully, one that is a bit more forgiving in the instep.

Thank you in advance

You can order a pair from Martegani for less than the Tavistock.

Thank you both for your prompt reply.

Unfortunately, Francos does not have my size 8 1/2 and they told me that model is discontinued.

The search continues !!

Thanks again

Btw, APortnoy , your shoe collection is amazing !!
Now I really want EG Beaulieu after viewing your photos. Something other than black. Thank you for sharing.

Thank you Doc.

It may very well be discontinued by Francos only. I will follow-up.

Thank you APortney. Your purchases (and pics) have inspired me. This has become addictive !!

I just tried on some Grensons at Paul Stuart. They are VERY comfortable shoes. They carry E widths though the selection is quite limited. I wish they had more styles to choose from.

My EGs took a few wearings to break in and still fit more snug than that.

If you don't mind a little bit of brogueing, you can try the C&J Drummond:

- regular line, 348 last and available in black. I find that this last fits large so hopefully you'll have less of a problem with your high instep.

Thanks

The Drummonds look rather nice. The 348 looks even more sharp than the 337 last.

Thanks for the tip on the Grensons. I know this is heresy on this forum, but I am looking for a pair in black !!

Thanks to all

the grenson austerity brogue is available from pediwear in black. the fitting is F, so it should have enough room for your instep.

price is 180 gbp (153 without vat)

edit: grenson now has a slightly different model (the shotley). the one in the ebay auction looks a hell of a lot better.

Nice shoes. But they only have a size 7 left.

Do you know what last it is on?

As I mentioned, I ordered the Tavistock II on the 350 last and it was much narrower than the 337.
I really like the look of the Tavistock

At this rate, I seemed destined to get the EG Beaulieu since the 606 last seems to fit my foot well. APortnoy showed a pair in antique burgundy that were fantastic. Of course, I lean to the boring black.

Hopefully, EG does not have them in stock so I can control this addiction.

It's on the 350 last. Very nice looking.
