You're going to Italy! Pack one pair shoes. Come home with three or four. See what people wear there. (Check out @italysegreta in IG for some great shots of Italians at play.) And then hit the local shops. Canvas espadrilles are so much cheaper in Europe.

Also - I was I is Spain last June and loose drawstring beige coarse textured linen pants were perfect for visiting churches and city cafes. Looked great with my white seersucker shirt in the day, and with my navy linen blazer at night. Have a great time!! I'm dead jealous.

In regard to Sicily where I will have the pleasure of spending 3 weeks next month....the dark complexion of many Sicilians makes sense from a historical perspective.
