At 39, am I too old to be wearing black Nike Killshot 2 sneakers?

I just turned 39 and am curious on peoples' opinions about if I'm trying to hard wearing the black Nike Killshot sneakers? They're a beautiful shoe with simple colors, but maybe too stylish/flashy for someone in their late 30s. I'm in Chicago which is pretty fashion forward, but would appreciate opinions on if people my age should go for something more subdued. Thanks!

The Killshot is like one of the safest sneakers. Would be perfectly fine on someone in their late 30s

If versatility is important to you, I think the model is better in white/ gray

i def think its more than fine. There are times for loafers, sneakers, oxfords, boots, etc. This is absolutely not trying to hard where appropriate.

Killshots are pretty versatile if your casualwear leans "basic." I don't mean basic in a bad sense. I just can't think of a better word for it.

For example, they go with anything you'd find at J. Crew or their adjacent brands

They're also good for basic versions of workwear.

They have a slightly retro vibe that makes them easy to wear with more "classic" versions of casualwear. So that includes anything that can be described as prep, Americana, workwear, etc.

You may find white to be more versatile than black, however. White sneakers are often a little easier to pair with things like blue jeans and khaki chinos.

for a sneaker? what do you recommend?
how about something other than a sneaker?

Describe an outfit that you would want to wear sneakers with, and I’ll recommend something more age appropriate.

I would hardly call those 'flashy'. I sure hope those are more than appropriate, because I wear Adidas Gazelle OGs (another very basic sneaker) at age 48!

if your position is that every sneaker created is limited to a person of a certain age, i question if you've ever spent serious time in a city like New York or Chicago.

I live in Chicago. Go ahead and wear the sneakers. Not sure what the point of your asking was. You’re the one who brought up age as a factor for whether to wear sneakers.

I was asking about the sneakers themselves, not if sneakers at all should be restricted to an age limit. That's an absurd idea. People of all ages can wear sneakers. Next you'll be trying to restrict t-shirts or something.

you shouldn’t be wearing t-shirts.
But hey, you’re a big boy. Wear what you want.

You said something more subdued, not necessarily a more subdued sneaker.
Stop being a butt-hurt noob.

This side of the forum is mostly populated by people from the CM side of the forum (CM = Classic Menswear). Lots of people on that side of the forum have a somewhat "respectability politics" view of clothes. So grown men shouldn't wear sneakers, as sneakers are for children and people working out. Grown men should wear wingtips and sport coats and such.

It's not a view I subscribe to. Agree that sneakers can be worn by anyone.

I think if you visit Reddit's Male Fashion Advice, you may find more useful information on how to dress. Killshots are often recommended there for what they call a "basic bastard" uniform (they use that term affectionately).
