Are there any rules/norms regarding monograming? I usually prefer to place the monogram somewhere discreete - rather inside the collar of a shirt than on the body. If I do choose to have it somewhere visible, I always go with my initials. But how are the rules when they're placed inside the collar (or inside jackets/other non-visible areas)? I'm thinking about going with my full name on my next jacket (my name isn't that long). Also, I'm thinking about going with my full first name and first letter of my surname on my next shirt (inside collar).

Are there any specific rules? Only initials, full first name and first letter of surname, or first letter of first name and full surname? Perhaps I'm just overcomplicating things...

I’m looking to get or have another navy sportcoat made. I have one in hopsack but I’m looking for something more 3 season. What other fabrics could the proverbial staple navy blue blazer be made out of that would ensure it doesn’t look like an orphaned suit jacket? Serge fabric? Looking for suggestions for something that has texture allowing it to be worn with odd trousers and isn’t a worsted.

Does anyone have experience washing waterproof jackets made of polyester?

I got this waterproof parka made of polyester with a polyamide lining and the just realized the label says “wash in a laundry bag pillow case drip dry” and I don’t know what the hell it means.

It says “no dry clean” and has the washing machine symbol crossed as well. Do I hand wash it? What type of soap or cleaner do I use?

I’d use the hand wash cycle of the machine with a small amount of normal detergent, then hang to dry.

Is it possible to over polish leather shoes? I like to use creme polish on my shoes once a week. Is this too much?

I thought I was a decently dressed cat. I then started reading/looking at pics in the Classic Menswear pages and started looking at my fits with a different lens. It seems that a lot of my pants have issues. Due to the info that I obtained from these threads I might not be able to maintain my "swag" knowing that my clothes aren't as crisp as I thought. I buy exclusively "off-the-rack" and get the pants hemmed and the waists taken in. I have a small waist big butt type of build. Would taking the seat in or out fix these pants? Any other altering suggestions? Is this the right thread to post this?

Those of us with thicker seats/hips/butt will naturally have a little bit of this issue. This can also be depending on your posture/stance so make sure you're standing in a normal position before you try and judge how they may fit. I think if there's anything wrong it probably has to do more with the crotch than seat as it appears to be lower but I'm not an expert.

Posted about this on the Streetwear section but I figured this side of the site may have better insight on this.

I bought a pair of these high waisted trousers from Basic Rights and was pretty pleased with them until I put them on a 20°C wash cycle and ended up with these ugly fade lines across the seat.

I'd normally just get a replacement pair and be more careful but Basic Rights trousers come annoyingly short, they do have a lot of excess fabric for lengthening but you just end up with a very visible line where the old hem was. I'd rather avoid dealing with that again and get some similar trousers that are the right length in the first place.

Does anyone know a good place to get high waisted, navy cotton trousers with a slim/tapered fit and side adjusters instead of belt loops? They don't need to be quite as slim is Basic Rights. My budget would be around £100-£200.
