How difficult (expensive) would it be to re cut a long suit jacket to a regular? Also, is this commonly done?

I've contemplated this on a nice jacket i've seen on steep discount. Button & pocket placement seems to be what most people point out as being problematic. That and the fact that if the pocket depth is too close to the bottom of the coat, it will be extremely difficult for a tailor to reduce the length. Maybe a pic with the jacket on will be a good judge of how well the alterations will go?
Yeah, I would say anything more than 1/2" you're getting into trouble.
I think 1/2 would work perfectly as I'm right on the cusp between reg and long...only 6 ft tall but have 35 sleeves...is it something that most tailors can do?
