I'm looking for examples of wearing a 3/2 roll herringbone black/white wool SC without looking trad/grandfatherly.

Would it be possible to wear with something like purple/pink/blue tie & shirt(spread collar, possibly striped) combo, or is this just complete style mismatch?
What would be the right trouser color for this?

If I stuck to plain blue OCBD how far could I go with the tie?
I would really appreciate any help on this.

My shoe collection needs some serious work. Since I have my one solid black pair, I was curious if anyone had some suggestions for what 2-3 really versatile non-black pairs would be. Dress code is primarily business casual, though I do end up needing a suit on occasion a couple times a month. As a preference, I'm not a big fan of American shoe styling, and tend to prefer a lot of the English or Italian made shoes. Price range at this point would probably be in the neighborhood of ~$500 a pair give or take. I was eyeing some of the RLPL EG's and G&G's from the recent sale, but was unsuccessful at finding my size and unfortunately I'm not really in a position to buy those at their full retail.

Also, if anyone has any suggestions for what to wear during rain / snow it'd be appreciated. I assume I'd just be looking for some brand that I can get a dainite sole on?

I'd like to try on a pair of Crockett & Jones shoes before committing to purchase one on plal.com. Does anyone know of any stores in the Los Angeles area where I can try on a pair?

There certainly will be your random trolls and wisecrackers, but I think it's a relevant issue in this type of forum.

That said, granted, it has been discussed before, but not the worst idea to put it up for discussion again.

OK, I decided to start a thread: http://www.styleforum.net/showthread.php?t=159916

Could anyone tell me if a Spanish size 46 - Men's trousers - is equivalent to a UK 32 inch waist ?
    Thanks

    Question:

Which last in edward green or C&J most closely resembles the Loake capital last? The Loake Mayfair last?

    Thanks.

I just recently received a pair of captoe oxfords in the mail.

When I wear them, the sides of the foot opening (the top of the shoe where you slide your feet in; near the ankle) bow out a bit. At first, I thought I had ordered the wrong size, but now two different sizes of the same shoe do the same thing.

They are a pair of Cole Haan Caldwells (yes, yes, I know) in 11EE. I tried them in a 12EE first but they were a bit too big. Does anyone know what causes this bowing out?

I don't mean to be a jerk or anything, but can anyone help me with my question? I need to make a decision soon on whether to keep or return these or I'm stuck with them (limit on return days after sale)

    Thanks in advance!

I have an annoying problem related to finding clothing. I am a very small, slim individual (5' 4'') and am trying to find a nice winter coat. I'm not keen on specific terms, but I'm trying to upgrade my wardrobe a bit and have been looking into "pea coats"....

At 5'6 I'm not too far off with your problem...
    1. Try certain types of stores like the more fashion forward places such as Zara, H&M, etc who might have 34 or 36's. Or stores that cater to the Asian market, or better yet, go shopping in Asia!
    2. Try specialty stores for "smaller" people. If you check my post history I've often listed sites and stores around the country that specialize in this type of thing. If you're in NYC, LA, or Toronto I know of stores. Otherwise look at Jimmy Au's, Brown's, and shortshrifted.com as starters

Does Lambswool shrink when washed? I know dry cleaning is preferred, but the piece in question (a cardigan) is washable, and a tad large for me, so I wouldn't mind if it shrunk a bit. Just curious.
    Thanks.

I've got many merino, cashmere, etc sweaters and whenever I've put them anywhere near warm-hot water or a dryer they shrink like crazy and the results are rather unpredictable. So it's a little risky, and they're hard if not impossible to stretch back out again. The only risk I'd take if I were you is to maybe give it a soak in WARM water, just to see what happens. Often the length shrinks before the width with for me was a problem.

I have recently bought this tie, wich I liked.
But I´m having a hard time matching it to other colors than white.
    Anybody hav some suggestions?

Yes, that's a hard one to match. Light blue, like a Bengal strip could work, or a light pink. Maybe a darker grey?

Does anyone know of a general SF thread discussing "Made in China" vs "Made in ..." vs... Or is it actually too controversial for the forum policy? At least to some of us I think it's a matter of politics and society when we discuss where clothes are manufatured.
i wish i could point out a thread to you because it's been discussed ad naseum, but i'm not sure we had a thread dedicated to it
+1, this has been discussed around before. I think Mafoofan started a whole debate at some point saying that just because stuff was made in China doesn't mean it's terrible, and the "made in Italy" or USA or whatever is sometimes just finishing details or immigrant workers anyway. I see you've started a thread, so good luck, but there was some discussion about this before just FYI.

I think I've asked this same question before as I have the sample problem. It's probably to do with fit. I have a wide foot but a relatively narrow ankle, so I also get that bulging near the ankle even when the laces are done up tightly. The solution is a shoe that fits better, but I try not to let it bother me too much because the alternative is MTM/Bespoke or more shoe shopping...

I recently bought a nice croc belt in a foreign country but it came with a crappy/ugly buckle. Does anyone have ideas/sources for buying nice (business/suit appropriate) belt buckles? Thanks

    shoe welt question:

can a storm welt be treated in the same way as just a goodyear welt in the way the sole is repaired?

Are there any complications in replacing an old sole for a new one with a storm welt?
