Try Brooks Brothers knot cuff links:

On a similar note can I wear one of these cuff links as a guest at a wedding?

Anyone ever stretch out their shoes i.e. Allen Edmonds around the base of the foot (widest part)? Is it good for the shoe? I'm thinking I just need a little room.

Also, what blend of colors for a navy jacket is a versatile? Like the materials, blend of navy/grey, birdseye, etc.
Looking to perhaps get a nice navy jacket that I can wear comfortably with denim as well as trousers.

Any idea on where to find my ideal dress shirt?:

    1) Slim/tailored fit (thinking more European cut, similar to Brooks Brothers Extra Slim Fit)
    2) Spread collar
    3) Poplin weave or similar weave that's good for wearing under suits
    4) No chest pockets
    5) Side pleats or no pleats at all (trying to avoid center back pleat)
    6) Barrel cuff (single button)

Would greatly appreciate any help on this. Budget is <$100 per shirt

    Jiralnom,.

These Charles Tyrwhitt shirts fulfil conditions 1 to 4, 6 and your price condition. I don't know if they fulfil condition 5.

sure... a cobbler can stretch shoes a little. maybe 1/4 to 1/2 size I'm guessing.... if it's just a little there is nothing wrong with it or to worry about the shoe.

navy blazer is one of the most versatile jackets you can own... it's almost impossible to F-up! any pix of your ideas?

Thanks guys, I was just wondering if you had any threads/blogs/links in mind that are focused on the absolute beginner. what I'm looking for is a thread that'll help a noob with

    • Color Coordination
    • Pattern and Texture Coordination
    • Contrast Combination

    http://www.styleforum.net/t/284037/practical-thoughts-on-coherent-combinations-for-beginners/390

I found the following thread and I"m reading it right now. I wouldn't say I'm a complete beginner b/c I don't dress that horribly, mostly business casual all the time (I'm a college student), but I'd like to add more to my personal style. I've been following many blogs and been reading up as much as I can.

Appreciate the help but was looking more for "Tailored fit" as opposed to "Slim fit". I hear CT slims can be a bit loose, especially for someone with a skinny frame. I'm a 15/33; 5'10, 140 lbs

Thinking I need a pair of black casual shoes.

The only black shoes I own are a pair of fairly dressy cap toe oxfords and a pair of clark's wallabees. I don't really like either.

My normal clothes are a OCBD, sometimes a sweater, and a SC with a pair of jeans, cords, or fairly informal trousers.

Am I better off with a pair of brogued oxfords, chelsea boots or something else entirely? I'd like something that will work with a fairly laid back pair of jeans and sweater combo or navy blazer, tie and dress shirt if possible. Obviously coherence isn't my strong suit so I thought it might pay to farm this one out.

Please let me know what you think about the fit of these two items

    1. Caruso, Pure Cashmere, size 50
I'm wearing my suit coat under the jacket, not confident about the waist or length of sleeve, price is USD1,000, bit worried how cashmere can take the elements altho we never get snow here
    [IMG]

    2. Corneliani, Pure Cashmere, 50R - jacket length seems to short for me but I'm advised this is the Corn style, 2 open buttons on cuff in this shot (also $USD1,000)

How are you set on non-black shoes? I don't find a lot of use for black, although I have several. Fairly limited application, unlike browns/burgundies.

    @Mirador

#1.. I see you point on the waist.. it appears a bit full. What's your concern with the sleeve? Too short? From the pic it looks fine to me.

#2.. The shoulders and general fit seem fine... but again it would be easier to tell with a full-on frontal view pic... with respect to the length of you arm the coat does "look" short, but how it relates proportionally to your legs can't be determined from this pic.

Whatever you like is fine. Brouged oxfords, heavy longwings, or hell, penny loafers. But steer clear of black with jeans, you'll need brown or burgundy for that. Black shoes are best limited to shades of gray, black, and sometimes olive (which works equally well with brown or burgundy).

How do these Grenson longwings rate against the usual suspects (Aldens, Florsheim Imperials, etc.)?

    http://www.endclothing.co.uk/grenson-sid-long-wing-brogue.html

I would change the laces to a darker set and use them sometimes during the week with flannels and other odd trousers but mostly during the weekends with chinos and jeans.

Great, if by "set" you mean do I have at least three pairs of brogues in varying shades of brown, Bean Boots, and a pair of desert boots. Also a pair of very nice, brogued high tan double monks that I will never wear, and a pair of driving mocs I don't think I even tried on.

Huh. Just figured if I was going to be wearing a fairly informal SC that had black in it I wasn't meant to be wearing it with brown shoes. Maybe I just won't wear black shoes, period, barring job interviews and funerals...
