The merlot McAllister was one that crossed my mind. I only wish it came in a dark brown rather than merlot. I'll take a look at the Alden wingtip bal - I just hope its one of the sale shoes!

    Thanks for the suggestions guys.

I'm going to plug the Brooks' Peals again, for two reasons:

    1. They are nicer shoes. Not to get into the religious wars, AE and Alden make very nice shoes, and they will last you for a very long time if you take care of them, but the Peals are nicer. I believe those wingtips and perf toe caps are made by Crockett & Jones for Brooks Peal label.

    2. Brooks has a big sale on through Nov. 7. 25% off if you use a Brooks card, which you could apply for right then. If there is a Brooks anywhere near you, I would encourage you to go try them on.

The Alden and Peal offerings are more expensive. But, you are going to have these shoes for a very long time if you take care of them. The price difference should not be the only consideration.

Stopped into Brooks Bros today and saw a few items I'd really like. One was their Fitz cord blazer and another was their waxed cotton driving jacket. Both are $400 though.

How big is Brooks after Xmas sale, both in terms of discount and availability of things? Is the discount over 50%? Are most things discounted? There is a nylon traveller jacket right now for $138, and it's kind of like the waxed cotton driving jacket. I'm thinking about picking that up, but will wait till after Xmas if the sales tend to be big enough.

    Any experience?

BB typically has a Dec. 26 sale, with suits and overcoats 25 percent off and everything else 40 percent off. However, until 1 p.m. Dec. 26, BB reduces the price of everything another 15 percent if you pay with a BB credit card.

Do Pecarry Leather gloves require special care?

Or can I just use conditioner/waterproofer for normal leather gloves?

Alright, need some quick advice for a wedding. Had short notice on this and need something for two weeks from now. I'm young and just getting into this, so I have nothing to wear. I also lost 80+ pounds this year and have to start from scratch on this. It's pretty casual, so I'm looking for a sport coat to piece together with the rest. Since I don't have time to do this online and look for a deal, I need to get something from a B&M. I'm also on a limited budget, so I'm looking to get the sport coat for under $200. From what I've read here the department stores get rated pretty lowly, so whatever suggestions you guys have for something affordable that doesn't suck let me know.

I was browsing department stores today and Macy's had a Lauren by Ralph Lauren Herringbone sport coat and some line of Calvin Klein coat at 50% off, but from what I've read here Macy's lines are to be avoided. Are these at all worth it in this situation?

    Sorry for all the qualifiers!

Is the 15% off before 1pm really only if you pay with a BB credit card? I thought it was just an early bird special for post-xmas sales. I was hoping to buy a store merchandise credit off eBay, which usually sells at 85% of the face value, and then use that in addition to the 25 + 15% discount. If I can only get the 15% discount with a BB credit card, however, this might not work.

Also, I'm surprised at how minimal this sales discount is. Their FF sale is 25+15. I would have thought their after Xmas sale would be more.

I purchased a Golden Fleece during their '07 Christmas Sale for $700. I don't recall what the exact sale %s were, but they had some good deals back then.

I'm looking at a suitcoat on Ebay that is a tagged 38 but has a 18" pit to pit. Is it possible that someone with an actual 38" chest can fit into it? Please forgive my ignorance on the subject, I know it sounds ridiculous but this doesn't make any sense why it would be labeled a 38. Btw, I'm a 36 actual chest and my only blazer (don't own any suiting yet) measures 39" and fits slim (adding further confusion that someone might be able to help sort it out). Thanks

Measure the one you have and compare.

those gloves won't need any special care, just use your usual conditioner sparsely.

I'm pretty sure they do. I think it's only the shell cordovan shoes that don't go on sale.

Is there a general rule on Elbow Patches on Tweed SCs regarding height/distance from cuff or shoulder?

Should the patch generally hang below your actual elbow when your arm is at your side and then be centered once the arm is bent?

Yes, they should be placed where they are functional.

Hi gents and ladies, I have a question about belt color. Like I know a belt color should match the color of your shoes. However, it doesn't have to be exactly the same tone. So the question is = is it okay to combine a dark-brown belt with medium brown shoes? For example: This dark brown belt: [IMG] With these light/medium brown shoes: [IMG] Also, a dark brown belt shouldn't be combined with black shoes right?

I just purchased some drivers and on my first day of wearing them I've noticed that toe portion is scraping the ground and the leather is fading. Is this normal? I know drivers are meant for only driving, but I only walked two blocks to work.

normal. they are disposable shoes if you wear them outside their intended purpose. good luck.
