Quote: The coat does have some waist suppression, but it also flares out significantly. Check out these measurements from J.Crew for size small:

Chest Circumference 1" Below Armhole: 41.5"
    Waist Circumference: 39.75"
    Sweep Circumference Measured Straight: 43.75"

So yeah, it's going to look pretty hippy on just about anyone.

Do you think it'd be possible to reduce the flare by 2" or more without screwing up the way the pockets are positioned?

Thinking about pulling the trigger on the Kent Wang Navy nailhead jacket: http://www.kentwang.com/suits/nailhead-navy-jacket.html

Looking for something that will work for travel -- handle business meeting with grey trousers and jeans. Do you think this will do the trick or is there something else I should consider?

    Re: grenadine

I personally think black, navy, and chocolate to be the staple, burgundy and green would be good too though. After that navy dots and some burgundy/navy stripes.

Does anyone know the sleeve length of Ralph Lauren Button Down Shirts? Neither the official website nor retailers like Nordstrom list sizing details...

You mean like the shirts shown at http://www.dillards.com/product/Pol...onDownCollar-Dress-Shirt_301_-1_301_501208149? Because if you click on "Size" drop-down, it lists a variety of collar and sleeve sizes.

'Course, Ralph Lauren might have other lines of buttondown shirts, and maybe the collar-to-sleeve sizing scheme varies between lines. I don't know.

Contact Ralph Lauren customer assistance. If they promptly and cheerfully answer your question, then all is well. If they don't provide you with a meaningful answer, then that - combined with the company's curious reticence to disclose this information in advertising and via labeling - might cause you to reconsider whether you really want to support a company which is apparently so unwilling to share highly relevant product information with potential customers.

Ralph Lauren's Customer Assistance email address is CustomerAssistance@RalphLauren.com and their phone number is 888-475-7674.

Thanks, I've actually been on this website but I could not get any information due to the error "
This item is not available for international purchase.". I've changed my country to US now and have seen what you meant. The shirt I have in mind seems to be a casual shirt as it has the sizes S/M/L etc. I'll probably just e-mail the customer service, you are right.

I couldn't give you an honest answer to that; you're better off going to a good tailor and getting his/her opinion on the hip flare. Alternatively, you can ask in the "Mega Peacoat Thread" and see what they say. I would, however, post a picture of yourself in the coat.

Interesting, I'm on the American (Official Ralph Lauren) site looking at shirts and they all have size charts. For example, a sport shirt in small from the Black Label line says the sleeve length is 32"-33".

    Hey--

I know there have been a lot of threads on matching belts and shoes, but I can't seem to discern what the forum's opinion is on borderline cases like this. Title pretty much says it all: can you coordinate a very dark brown belt with black leather shoes (e.g. allen edmonds black park avenues?)

(most seem to say color should be the same "family" but texture could be different; is can black be classified as in the same family as very dark brown?; if the belt/shoes are the same texture, is a slight difference in color workable?)

One belt that might qualify as the dark brown I'm referring to could be: this
    http://www.filson.com/products/1-1-...=mens/belts-and-suspenders&fmetaProduct=1011/
    or this
    http://www.filson.com/products/1-1-...=mens/belts-and-suspenders&fmetaProduct=1011/
    or this
    https://www.jcrew.com/mens_category/accessories/belts/PRDOVR~16137/16137.jsp?color_name=dark-brown

    Thoughts?

PS--what is a normal thickness belt for something meant to be all-around (casual and dress compatible)?

I'm looking for something similar to the Allen edmonds Leeds, in black leather. So far it seems there are few competitors for that shoe in that price range or cheaper. J crew appears to offer a ludlow shoe that is made by Alden(?) but I don't know about the quality and reviews on their own website aren't encouraging. Cole haan has a cheaper black blucher but in person it looked like it was made of plastic and this site seems to discourage buying from them. Hugo boss makes some but I've had a bad experience with them before.

Anyone know of a plain black blucher/derby shoe that is well-constructed and will be comfortable/long-lasting? Is there some brand I'm ignorant of? (NYC/Long Island area availability strongly preferred)

Why not just get the Leeds? Much better than Cole Haan and Hugo Boss, and cheaper than Alden. The AE Leeds will last you many years.

You can often find the Leeds in black shell at the Shoe Bank. Good deal.

But personally I think black is for oxfords. Go burgundy in that style, and rock with jeans, chinos, cords, moleskins etc.

Any tips on dirt cheap dress belts? I'm looking <$35. Specifically, I'm looking for a tan-ish belt that'll match my walnut AE Strands, and a burgandy belt to match some old shell cordovan bluchers I picked up. These are both for my xmas list, so the price ceiling is fairly firm.

Also, any other tips on dress/fashion pieces for less than $35?

Either take your time on eBay or look at Nord. Rack for Trafalgar, Bosca, or something similar. I think those brands are about $30 there.
