In the first scene of the movie "The Girlfriend Experience" there is a wonderful striped shirt with French cuffs. Anyone know what I'm talking about? The movie is a visual feast.

    Hello,

I'm going to a retirement party in July. Family is retiring from the Navy. I have a beige suit. I was curious as to what shoes and what color I should wear? Going for a casual look. Nice button-up with top two buttons open.

    Thanks, for your time!

Wear brown or burgundy shoes with a tan suit. Black would look awkward at best. If you're going sans tie, wear a patterned shirt. Perhaps gingham.

    Two questions:

Cognac brown shoes with grey pants - yay or nay?

Secondly: Is it recommended I get a belt the same shade as my shoes to wear with them? Would a black belt look off?

    Sorry for the novice questions.

    Yes, they should.

However, be aware that the madras may have faded a bit with wear but the material you're letting out to lengthen them may not have faded equally as it has not been exposed to the sun. Also check the existing hem for any signs of wear and tear.

Why are you asking newb questions when you are a Senior Member?

Cognac brown would look great with a gray suit. You should get a belt that is of a similar shade to the shoes. It doesn't have to match perfectly. A black belt would look way off.

Changed it to 'novice' ;) . I knew that, that would probably be the answer. I went to a local men's store yesterday and he said a black belt would look better (very odd). Now I just need to find a a belt in that color area.

    Thanks!

    Hi guys,

Any opinions as to which is the more prestigious fabric house, Loro Piana or Dormeuil?

    Thanks

This is an extremely broad and somewhat ridiculous question. Their fabrics are of very different styles. Which do you like better? Go with that.

I like the look of showing some ankle with your suit pants especially in summer but it has me wondering if having my pants hemmed short like that would render them useless or unfashionable in fall/winter. Or would putting on socks fix that? New to high end fashion here. TIA

Only pants I would ever show ankle with are chino/khakis. The rest would look silly otherwise. (my opinion)

Would you suggest no break then? Is the look of showing some ankle just a fad?
