I avoid outfits like this - I like more contrast in the stuff I wear.

Definitely. Like beige twill pants or something like that will make darker tops look awesome.

if your shoes are relatively vibrant then you should be good

if you're gonna wear a collared shirt underneath make sure that pops a bit too

I'm looking for some casual black and dark gray trousers. Something along the lines of Stephan Schneider lookbook. Not really sure where to start.

I figured the pants should be:
    1) wool or a wool blend
    2) not pleated
    3) not too heavy/warm, definitely not herringbone pattern as I live in a warmer area

Any suggestions besides Schneider? I was thinking about playing Yoox roulette.

Bump. Also, clarification: I'm asking about 100% cotton casual button-down shirts, the kind you may get at LL Bean for instance. Or most any generic OCBD for that matter.

Is Hugo Boss any good? Looking for super cheap flat front dress pants on eBay and found a pair that is my size and the right color, but I've never heard anything about their quality. I searched here and found a post saying their suits were overrated and overpriced, which isn't a huge deal since I would be getting it for incredibly cheap. Are they at least comparable to like J. Crew or BR? I'm completely open to other suggestions and in absolutely no hurry to buy anything right now, only constraint is money.

If they fit fine and you like the color then they're likely fine. There are much better buys for the new price, but the quality should be fine if the price is right for you. I think they should easily be comparable to j crew and br.

I think it's like you were saying the other day about the whole blue on blue thing - watch is nice and casual. Some color under the sweater but the navy over the denim isn't working, in my opinion.

Like I think you could have done a cream colored sweater or some other lighter color and then a darker shirt underneath and things would come together a little better.

    Just my two cents!

Looking for higher-end chinos in Khaki - think Left Field NYC. What other brands are there in a slim straight/tapered fit?

nah, you're right. I only took the pic to proof my assumption. sweater is not a problem since I have a light grey one that goes along well with the denim. the problem is that now I can't wear the navy sweater before I get myself some new pants.
