My Red Wing 9016s showed up yesterday. First off, goddamn, they are some good looking boots. First pair of non-dress shoes I've made a real investment in, and I'm very happy with how they look. That said, I'm wondering how much they loosen up. I walked to class in them and am wearing them now and they feel great, it's getting them on that's tricky. I have a pretty high instep, so boots are often a bit tricky for me to get in, with these I had to completely unlace them and really fight to get 'em on. They feel perfect on my feet right now, but I'm wondering if my difficulties getting them on/off is normal at first? Thanks.

They will get easier just wear them a lot. I just got some Beckman's and had the same issue. After a week of non-stop wear they way more easy to put on and take thankfully.

I wanna waterproof this fishtail (or at least make it suitable as a raincoat):

What's the best way? I heard waxing is messy and it's really hard to get a uniform coat. Synthetic waterproofing maybe? Or will I regret the decision altogether after the fact?

You cant really get support out of socks (need an insole for that), but padding and comfort wise its probally best to go to a local outdoor store. Bring your boots with you and see how they feel. The socks built for hiking are way more advanced than anything made for casual wear.

by support i really meant that i like the socks that have the tighter band that kind of wraps around the middle of your foot.
was hoping to grab something off amazon prime as i have a bunch of amazon gift cards right now. i've been looking at reviews on there.

are their boot socks a little thicker tho? id like the boot socks to be a little beefier than normal athletic socks.
if so i'm sold...i'll buy anything Under Armour.

Yes, they're thicker. The heavy cushions especially so.
