    Ask another gay man:

    Everyone's a Critic

    By ERIC WILSON
    Published: September 27, 2007

THERE are only so many ways you can say 'Voilà ,' '' Lloyd Boston groaned a few days after his umpteenth appearance on the ''Today'' show, this time to critique the red carpet fashions at the Emmys, which left him feeling a little empty.

This month alone, Mr. Boston taped more than a dozen segments for ''Full Frontal Fashion'' on the WE network and toured Macy's stores in four cities to promote the sportswear brand Jones New York. On ''Today,'' his melodic, upbeat sound bites on style were received as if they were handed down from Mount Givenchy.

And yet Mr. Boston, a former art director at Tommy Hilfiger turned ''fashion guru,'' is increasingly uncomfortable with the direction of his profession, which is being overshadowed by the arrival of similarly self-styled experts who are younger, cockier, snippier, zanier -- but not necessarily more qualified to dispense advice on what to wear.

    more [including Mr. Sledd:]

He's gotten a lot of press lately, and says that he's entered into a contract with NBC. Coming to a TV near you?

It's pretty simple: If you follow a gay man's style advice, you will look like a gay man. Still, for 99% of men out there, it would probably be an improvement.

I wouldn't say certain 'styles' are better than others. It's like saying slim fits are 'in style'. One man's slim fit is another man's straight leg.

Boot cuts look better on some people than others. If you have skinny thighs, they'll probably look stupid on you. If you have large thighs, they'll balance out your calves a bit which naturally tend to lag behind.

Whatever happened to wearing what fits best?
