Ascending stairs two steps at a time

I prefer to ascend most stairs two steps at a time, as it is more efficient. I notice that few others do this.

Is this a matter of etiquette? I would not ascend the stairs at my coronation two steps at a time, for example.

Would you do it if you're wearing a suit?

P.S. - I do not descend steps two steps at a time as it is quite dangerous -- or perhaps I haven't gotten the hang of it yet.

I do this, too. I'm so accustomed to it that it feels weird to only walk up one at a time. If I'm in a formal situation, or if I'm walking with someone else, I don't do it, but I'm not aware of any specific etiquette regarding the practice. Basically, if it would look weird or stand out I don't do it, but if I'm just walking up stairs normally I skip steps.

I'm a tall guy, so I do this naturally on most staircases. Ascending stairs one step at a time takes too long, and also looks goofy on someone capable of seamlessly striding up two stairs at a clip.

Is there etiquette to stair ascension? Not that I'm aware of. Just don't shove people out of your way on your way up, and you're fine.

Depends if they are familiar stairs. For stairs I have not encountered before, I prefer to touch each step.

I would say that it's a bit unstylish to take stairs two at a time. It's like someone whos walking very fast and obviously in a hurry - they look late, not composed and unruffled.

I do it all the time. Sometimes, I practically bound up stairs, especially those outside. In formal situations, I try to tone it down a bit.

I typically ascend two steps at a time at a running pace to beat my previous ascent time to the top. Sometimes, on the descent I'll jump past the last 5 steps or slide down the rail on ****** with both of my legs on one side while retaining my balance.

This. It also depends on whether the surface is a relatively slippery material or not.

I'm not that tall (6'3), but I do this same thing.

Stairs are handy when on amphetamines - if only because patience is lacking: the elevators are much too slow.
Firehall poles are best for descending instead of traditional staircases.

yes, i do this too. i also walk up and down escalators. pisses me off when the person in front of me just stands on them, too
