Artwork Suggestion

I'm not sure if this is the right place to ask this question or not. There are bound to be some Irish members of this board that may be able to assist me.

My fiancee is Irish-Italian, I'm black.. I want to try to get three pieces that tie in our cultural heritage (less than say, 500? a piece) to hang in a room in our home. That being said, I'm having difficulty doing that.

Any help out there? I'd prefer something that is based in or about Ireland, not just necessarily by an Irish artst. I know, I'm fishing. Grazie.

I'm not particularly knowledgable about Irish art, but one idea for your project is to keep the medium the same for all three pieces. It might reinforce your tri-heritage theme. Say, three black and white photographs -- one from each location. Or maybe, three different types of ceramics. I kind of like the idea of the more artisan or craft arts because you can find unusual things that typically cost less than "fine" art such as painting and sculpture.

Consider this as well, as this is meant to represent you and wife.

Are your ethnic backgrounds part of you as people? A lot of people say "I'm Irish", but are about Irish as I'm a ballarina. If the goal is to represent you as people, go for something very personal. If your national identities are very much part of you are, then I'd go with your idea. For Irish, I'm too sure. If she's Irish and goes back to Ireland, there won't be any trouble finding Irish art.

Kronik, do you know where exactly (or roughly) you hail from? That could help. On the other hand I recall that there were a number of African nations that were either British colonies with Irish immigrants - you could look there for inspiration. Of course that may be a bit of a, well, bad thing. Sort of like my getting something from Cyprus that has Turkish influences to remind me of the fact that we were subjugated by the Ottoman empire

LOL! Sort of like when St. Patrick's day comes around, every other person has a great-great uncle or something from Limerick?

That's cool. What I could suggest are finding offbeat galleries in Dublin, or whatever major city center near whee she comes from.
