I realize they are not top tier, but I'm looking at a couple of suits by each that can both be had for close to the same price. So in simple terms, is one a clear winner over the other?

I would choose Armani for the fabric selection and the slightly slimmer sillhouette.

Armani by a huge margin. Better cut, better styling, and canvassed lapels (which most ABs -- but not all -- don't have).

Armani Collezioni is much better IMHO. Styling wise, Armani is really the best when compared to other mainstream designers. I wish Collezioni suits were fully canvased, that would be simply amazing.

Let me warn you though, Armani suits are not everyday work suits. Most often, Armani fabric is very delicate.

I would also go with Armani, although brant sometimes does make suits using LP cashmere or higher grade fabrics, they won't be canvassed.
