I went to my local TJ Maxx today searching for PDC jeans and happened across a bunch of clearance items from the black "giorgio armani" line and the blue "giorgio armani classico" label. I know armani has a bad reputation here, especially the collezioni line, but I'm wondering if the higher end stuff is worth it at a deep discount, if not for me then for eBay?

There were probably about 50 items in total:

Black Label:
2 tweed blazers MSRP $1500, clearance $180
8 wool single-pleat pants (sz 34,36,38) MSRP $550, clearance $58
2 belts msrp $200, clearance $20
Lots of knit sweaters 100% wool $40

Blue Label:
Silk, wool, cashmere blend sweaters, turtlenecks in lots of colors but mostly in sz S were $40

In addition there were a bunch of emporio armani chunky wool/acrylic sweaters but they didn't look that great.

These are only first clearance markdowns and I imagine they willl be marked down more, but would any of these items fetch a good price on eBay? Are they worth it for the money?

Thanks in advance,
Rohan

HOLY ****.

Where are you located that your TJ Maxx gets such nice things? I've never seen anything close to that nice at my locations.

To answer your question, it's probably worth it to pick up those items for Ebay. You'll be able to double your money at the very least, given that you take satisfactory pictures. I still can't believe that these items were at TJ Maxx.

To answer your other question, the black and blue labels are much much better than collezioni. Those prices are great too. It might not be Kiton quality, but when you're paying $180/blazer, $20/belt, $60/pants, its definitely worth it. Those are all 90% off or more on original prices.

You might want to wait for the next clearance round for the blazers. Jackets and suits seem to sit at my TJ Maxx for a while, so you might be able to get them at next round clearance for $120 in a few weeks. Same with the pants. Definitely get the belts now, and the sweaters are a great buy at $40.

If you do pick some stuff up, please let me know, as I would be interested. I'd fit a size Small in the blue label sweaters, so if you were able to pick one up in a V-neck or crewneck, I'd pay you back plus give you extra for shipping and your time.

Hi Versace,

thanks for the advice... actually I live in the middle of nowhere in central New Jersey and I have no idea where any of this stuff came from, but they all have the original 30% off and what looks like a certificate of authenticity (looks just like a stamp) suprisingly enough. I will pick up what I think looks like the better stuff and take some pictures... I guess you'd pass on the emporio coarse wool/acrylic sweaters? One word of caution though, the sweaters are all on hangers and that has a tendency to stretch out the neckhole

Have you found nice things like this before?

My locations carry higher-end denim sometimes, but usually as far as dress shirts/slacks/sweaters, the nicest things are Ike Behar and Joseph Abboud. I checked out both TJ Maxx and Marshalls by my house - nothing. Marshalls had some Theory 'dress' shirts, but they were $70 - not worth it, IMO, for a made-in-china shirt. If they ever hit the ~$30 clearance mark, they will be a better deal.

I'm not too interested in the Emporio sweaters, but if you do go back to pick up the Black/Blue labels for ebay, could you let me know about those sweaters?

Armani has taken a drubbing here (and in similar forums).  But I have nothing but praise for the Black Label clothing I've seen and, in one case, owned.  Until I lost too much weight, my favorite suit--one which almost invariably elicited admiring comment--was an Armani BL phantom pinstripe in navy crepe-like wool.  And it is the only RTW suit I possess.

Does Armani black label have the same slim fit that Emporio Armani has? From my understanding, it has a much more... umm.. "Mature" shaped body.

I have several Armani Classico and Black label suits - they are far too baggy for me. I really dont like the Armani cut - lacks the shape and taper of say of the Gianni Versace Couture line. I sometimes think that Armani does his darndest to fit as many body shapes as possible into his suits. Quality wise, they are very good suits (a step up from Collezione) but the style are also old fashioned for me. Much prefer the Gucci and Versace cuts and "look" of the suits. At those prices, sounds like a bargain if you like the style.

For anyone who is interested, I have posted a list of the available items here. Any offers or opinions on eBay resellability are welcome.
