Are women expecting men to look more stylish than in the recent past?

Men, at least young men in the United States, are dressing somewhat better on average today than, say, in 2006. (Not everyone believes that assertion, but for the sake of this thread, go with it.) Do women expect more of male style than they did in 2006?

I'm not sure your underlying assumption is true, evidence?

Regardless, I would say women's expectations are not really different from 2006. Possibly an increase in 2007/2008 with Madmen.

If anything, I'd say given the influence of Jersey shore, women are dressing worse.

Depends what you mean by "dressing better" in the first place. Women, by and large, have almost no understanding of tailored clothing for men. Just like men mostly dress for other women, I'd suspect men mostly dress for other men (and for themselves).

Good point. Probably better as in more fitted clothing (which is one area where menswear retailers have improved) and looking like there is some effort to dress up.

Also, when the main goal is to succeed with women, men dress much for women than men.
