Are wellies overkill?

Hi, I live in Hong Kong and the rain can be quite heavy during the typhoon season. Quite a few times I came back to the office with a pair of soaked leather shoes, socks and trousers. (yes, no kidding o_O). I wonder whether a pair of wellies would look a bit awkward when commuting to work? I am thinking of the SWIMS galoshes but they are only useful up to a point...additionally, my trousers are going to be wet anyway.

Attached a picture of Nick Wooster sporting a pair of wellies in the NYC (I know I am not Nick Wooster ;))

I think they are very practical

I recently got a pair and when I pair with a trench coat, i am completely covered from rain from the neck down

Thank you. Actually, I want to get my own trench coat too but the wet season is summer (30 degree C or 86F) here. I wonder what are the alternative choices for a warmer place like Hong Kong.

Maybe a lightweight trench?

you can always take it off when it stops raining

on Wellingtons, you have to be ok with the bottom of your pants getting wrinkled. Seems a fair trade to be dry though

There have been many a rainy day in Chicago when I wished I had a pair.

I keep a pair of wellies in the back of my 4wd for when the parking lot is flooded and I have to cross some puddles on my little walk to my office.

If you want to keep your feet and trousers dry, there aren’t a lot of options. You could carry trousers and shoes in a waterproof backpack and wear some tennis shoes, but you still have to dry them out each time and your trousers will likely get rumpled.

I picked up a pair of Le Chemeaus from Amazon fairly cheap over the northern summer. Only downside is that they are rather bulky and heavy to carry if you aren’t wearing them, and no wide sizes available.
