Are unstructured sports jackets less costly to make?
Eh, no I don't think so. Without an inner lining, the interior stitches have to be finished (by hand in better made garments). This means more labor and more $$$$. This applies whether or not it is unstructured.
You are confusing unstructured with unlined. Unstructured coats can be lined and vice versa. Unstructured coats will generally be less expensive than structured coats (of a comparative quality level) because there's no canvassing/fusing involved. FWIW, the tailor I use doesn't charge extra for unlined either.
Unstructured jackets are softer and more yersatile to wear on most days of the year.
Thanks, I thought unstructured jackets are also unlined.
