I am not used to mixing metals...but I want a new watch as a Christmas gift to myself and I am deciding between a gold and steel Daytona and the all steel Daytona. They cost pretty much the same...the two tone being discounted.

I wear a two tone Datejust pretty much every day, but in the Daytona I far prefer the all stainless. The two tone Submariner is much better than the two tone Daytona, IMO.

Two tone watches are generally elegant, but when it comes down to a choice between a particular two watches you just have to decide which of the two you really prefer.

Yes. Mixed metals always look crap to me. I'm pretty sure that steel watches with gold elements were only invented to try to bridge the incongruent gap between a steel watch and a gold wedding band on the same hand. These days silver/platinum/white gold is much more common for wedding bands so I reckon two tone watches are slipping out of favour. I see loads of second hand TT subs for sale.

For whatever reason the SS Daytona with the white face looks cheap to me...

I've never liked two tone watches but I guess if you mix and match gold and silver it makes sense. I did the gold thing for 19 years and now am into the stainless and platinum look for the last decade. I like a SS rolex myself. The all gold looks good but on many people it look like too much.......

Brietlings always look way too busy to my eye. I only want to know the time!

I've never liked any two-tone watches and I also think that the Navitimer-variant would look much better in just plain old steel.
