Are these shell cordovan or regular old leather?

^Shell. It's in the creasing. No microcreasing and the creases are lighter than the shell around it.

Yep, AlanC covered the obvious signs of shell, but this pair also has the distinctive dimple that sometimes appears on the vamp of shell shoes (this dimple has been discussed before and doesn't seem to have any obvious origin). It's the small indentation right in the middle of the vamp just below where the throat begins.
