Looks like Scotch Grain calf. Shark is more ripple-y with no real cross-hatches.

Doesn't looks like shark hide to me. Pebble grain or buffalo maybe?

I don't think so.

I had 2 pair which I sold.

If I can find pictures, I'll post them and you'll see a difference.

Sigh, they are pebble grain Lexingtons. Still vintage tho. (I think)

Definitely not shark. I have a lot of sharkskin belts and holsters, so I'd recognize it for sure. As others have suggested, it is what is called "Scotch grain" or "pebble grain" (not sure if there's a difference). Although not nearly as durable as shark, I find the leather in your new shoes a good deal more attractive and durable. Sharkskin shoes, although tough as all hell, look somewhat outre to me.

Don't think it is regular Scotch grain. The texture is so uneven. For sure no shark.

Something from Africa or from the woods

The black shoes are certainly vintage.

Where did you get the picture of the tan ones?

Google search. I think it's from shoebuy buy zappos is currently selling them. The sole is different tho. Thanks for the reply all. What are the chances they are calf & not highly corrected grain?

This photo is from some cowboy boots, but you can clearly see how the shark hide and texture differs from calf and your pebble grains:

BTW: I remember now that the shark was almost indestructible. I can't think of any animal hides or exotics that are more durable. Much more so than shell cordovan.

Yeah, I bought these on the chance that they were shark. Hopefully they will be nice nonetheless.
