Are these Edward Green?

I picked these up recently - they're labelled as Wildsmith, but their RTW was made by a couple of firms and I'm adamant these are not made by C&J, so are they Edward Green or something different?

It might not be cleared but they have a channelled sole.

Saw those, struck me as C&J at the time. Isn't it funny how if we entered bidding wars on these obscure things the most likely opponent is an SF'r you know?

I don’t think those shoes are Edward Green (although I’m not familiar with EG prior to 1981 when John Hlustik took over the firm).

EG always carries the last number as well as the production number. Their welts look different and the traditional nail pattern on the heel,
has them grouped in threes.

My guess goes to C&J.

They look very much like a pair of BB Peals I have, and they are C&J. Even the hand writing is the same.

Thank you all for your contribution - clearly I was wrong in writing them off as not being C&J.

I have a similar pair made by C&J for Poulsen Skone and the nail pattern is identical especially that brass nail in the centre top of the heel.

Is it not a fallacy to assume that a re-badged EG would automatically be "better" than one by C&J?

Both makers would make said shoes to the specified quality

Both being highly competent shoemakers, I believe this statement to be pretty much on the mark.

A very interesting point/comment and should be opened for discussion.

C&J, no doubt. Interior markings are consistent.

Even pre-80s, EG's had a different nail pattern, either the familiar 3s or a close row of square nails.
