Are these cordovan or regular leather?

I picked up these Florsheim Longwings/Gunboats a little while back, and after cleaning them up a bit I am really loving them. Are they by any chance cordovan? The somewhat fine wrinkling is making me think they're not, but I figured I'd ask.

I concur. Notice the pebbling in the creases - that's one tip-off I look for. Shell tends to have smooth creases.

Quite sure those are calf, but enjoy them anyhow. Nice shoes.

they look nice. i think when shell creases, they are fat. they're not as small as calf creases and sometimes i see a white color in the creases

These are definitely calf. Thanks for posting the pics - you did a great job cleaning and shining these beauties. I really love the color.

Thanks! I love it as well.

Thanks... I'm assuming that later era = not as well made?

In the interest of not cluttering up the board I am posting here rather than starting a new thread. Hope this is OK. I just picked up these Florsheim Imperial longwings and am fairly certain they are shell. They have the wavy creases and plasticky look. I got them on the cheap at a thrift store and need some advice on stripping off the old polish without damaging the finish. All I've done so far is use a damp cloth and a brush. This is all I ever do to my other shoes in shell. The vamp especially is cloudy from too much polish building up.
