Are there ways to increase IQ or scores on Aptitude Test?

Hello all,

Currently, I'm hunting for a job and many places where I applied usually ask me to take aptitude test. I find these tests very interesting because they help me think critically and rationally, so I would like to know if there are websites or ways for me perform well at these tests?

Thank you!

What kind of tests? Verbal Reasoning? Mathematics? Puzzle Solving?

The tests aren't actually practicable, as each is different, but you can train your mind to think quickly and efficiently. For example, verbal reasoning could be practised by doing a crossword every day. Maths could be by playing darts, or math games (I like to add all the numbers in the numberplate of a car together, then multiply by the last digit on my clock).

Puzzles are easy, get Towers of Hanoi or any of the million other logic games as an app.

Its not about passing the tests, its about thinking in a way that passes the test.

What about abstract reasoning or Diagrammatic reasoning?

How am I supposed to be good at that?

I tend to be good at math so I'm not too concerned about that.

Are the tests raw aptitude, or more like personality tests?

If it's IQ or any other test that involves working memory, then a dual-N-back program will help. Like is literally proven in independent studies to increase IQ scores.

Thanks to whoever suggested Dual N-Back (which you can read about at the site below). I found this excellent download of the game a few days ago; not only is it free, it doesn't require an online connection to play, and it actually keeps track of your sessions, and charts your progress on a graph. Really great stuff:

This next one I haven't fully investigated, but my brother recommends the 'reading span' test, said to improve memory and verbal ability. (I don't know much about the research, but I do know improvement on this test correlates with higher scores on things like the SAT, GRE, etc.)

Would love to discover more research-backed games such as these...

I have a problem with a question number 5 in this picture. Can anybody help figure out what it is that I need to look for?

I really have no idea what the progressive series is, but B is the only one with all eight elements of the first four.

I would have also gone with B for the same reason.

Worse still, it can lead to hooking up with non-SF-approved chicks.

I'm only six drinks in and thankfully that still hasn't happened. *whew!*
