Are Redwing Boots too rural/country for NYC?

They aren't too rural at all, but it totally depends on your look. You don't have to be an urban lumberjack but most people I see wearing those boots are rocking straight leg jeans and a plaid/chamerbray shirt. They aren't any good if you are wearing them with a shirt and tie if that helps. You said on the weekends though so they should be fine.

what a strange question.

If anything, NYC would be the perfect place to wear those boots because frankly people just don't give a damn what you wear.

I don't know about that. The fashion snobbery may not be spoken aloud, but people (for the most part) are well aware of what other people are wearing....

Why so obsessed about what others think about you?

If you are so insecure about the Redwing shoes, what makes you think the Indy boots would be good enough?

How about some Edward Green boots or John Lobb bespokes. That'll for sure impress all the New Yorkers (I'll be impressed too 'cause I'm a NYer wanna-be). Maybe girls (or guys if you are into that) will wanna blow you spontaneously?

I see these boots being worn in nyc all the time - no big deal - however I do think they have attained a bit of hipster vibe being worn mainly by younger folks, kind of an ironic statement and/or working man's aesthetic. They are pretty popular as evidenced by the recent redwing collab with JCrew that seems also to have gained some traction with the folks over at denim and streetwear. A classier upscale verision of these might include alden indies or the redwing gentlemans traveler.

My super wears those boots all the time. They're very authentic, on him. I prefer the Gentleman Traveler, and I wear them in the city at the weekend. In any event, they're a costume, just like everything else in New York.

I think with the prevalence of streetwear in NYC, it should be more than acceptable. I will however put in my recommendation for the Alden Indy, my favorite purchase of last year.

Fine if you sport a bushy beard, hang out at Freemans with a PBR and have a chained wallet.
