Are quilted jackets feminine?

This thread could also be titled, "Everything looks better on RalphLauren.com" or "What to think of dad's style advice

"

I ordered this jacket , because well, I need some lightweight outerwear and this had a nice "sporty"look with its shoulder patch(origins in hunting, it's where you rest your gun I suppose) and pockets. I didn't really think much about the fact it was quilted, other than I don't have anything like it, so why not try incorporate a new look.

When it came in the mail, I did notice the fabric was a bit shiny, more so than I expected- a bit of a turn off. But what really got me, was my dad's comment that he had only seen such quilted jackets worn by women, and that they were "feminine." Well, I respect that style choice by other men to lean to more to that side of the isle, but I don't really go for that look or something perceived as such. Anyway, I would be willing to keep the jacket if I can get some style forum consensus that my dad's opinion is really just an old fart's lack of style.

Could anyone suggest a similarly priced jacket that could suit the same purpose, that may be a little less.. femme?

Thanks

Looks fine to me. In any case, I wouldn't have thought it feminine unless someone brought it up.

Wear it with a week's worth of stubble, slightly ruffled hair, and a shotgun in the crook of your arm, and no one else will think it feminine, either.

Honestly, I've only seen women wear jackets like that. Burberry usually. But by all means, enjoy your girl jacket.

As long as you dont wear pink. Or some kinda silly color. I think you will be ok! Navy, Brown, Black, Green all seem to be legitimate purchases for men!

I'm waiting for the Hickey one on Gilt to sell through so I don't buy it.

No, quilted jackets are not feminine, and actually they have become pretty fashionable in Britain recently, a few years ago they were just for old farmers/young fogeys but no more.
Also I have seen them a lot in Italy on very well dressed men doing the dress more English than the English thing. I am seriously considering a navy blue Barbour quilted jacket.

Not inherently feminine in the slightest, and I'm surprised someone with 'sloane' in their username (sloane3) doesn't already own several

I don't think it's feminine either; go for it.

I have a Barbour quilted jacket, but without the hunting, leather patch.

Not feminine at all! It surely has a characteristic shine on it, put somehow a jacket of that sort has to!

Don't worry about it, wear it!
