I disagree. The waist could come in a bit, but it isn't so bad.

Looks fine over here. Looks very much the way Steve McQueen wore his peacoat in the Sand Pebbles.

A tad boxy is ok in front. Gives you room for a nice shawl-collared sweater under the coat. Sleeve length is fine.
    I have one question though...
The front of your coat...does it button left flap over right or right flap over left ?
If left over right (see Steve Mcqueen photo), you are ok ....if right over left, then it is a womans coat.
It appears as though someone took the photos of you, and unless you have reversed the images,
this does appear to be a womans coat.
This may also explain why the coat is somewhat flared out at the bottom.
Doesn't matter to me whatever blows your hair back, but pease do confirm.

Thanks for the input and photos!

I think I am going to wear and decide a little later if I want to tailor.

I dont think its possible for this to be a womans coat:

    1) Its a 46 from 1949 (real navy peacoat) and I dont think there were any women in the military who would have been issued a peacoat at that time. Let alone one who has a 46" chest and 36" arms.

    2) The coat can actually be buttoned either way. There are buttons and holes on both sides. I am just right handed so this just seemed to be the natural way to button.

i was just worried that the sleeves were a little short...but im glad they dont look bad! Espcially since I have been looking for a kersey wool coat in my size for a bout 2 years now.

Perhaps you have a unisex model. It's fine but take note that mens coat flaps are buttoned left over right. Again, do as you feel comfortable. Glad to have helped.

    thanks again.

You know its funny...just after I read this I saw a coat similar to this posted as 'unisex' on ebay...gave the womans sizing too.

Which is curious to me because I dont think they were even considering women for active duty on Naval Ships at that time.

I'll def. button the 'correct' way from now on though :)
