I understand the problem of wearing trousers that are to close in color to a jacket. But do jeans get an exception? I have seen pictures on here and elsewhere where a navy jacket paired with dark denim looks acceptable and possibly even stylish. But after having absorbed this forum's knowledge, I am now hesitant of wearing dark jeans with a navy jack for fear of coming off as a rube who is trying to wear a suit. I have a dark blue (navy) feather suede Lanvin jacket I just thrifted and would like to make it my going out to drinks jacket. Problem is I usually like wearing dark jeans for such outings. The wash on my dark 501's is very similar to the blue of the jacket. I think I prefer the look of jeans that have been in the wash dozens of time now, which I usually don't like, only because I prefer some contrast. I am curious as to what other people think about this.

I like to wear jackets with jeans. Navy goes great with jeans, dark to lighter washes (which I prefer).

Unless the jeans are made of wool or the blazer of denim, you'll be fine.

IMO, the desire is to create a contrast between the pants annd the blazer. The denim of the pants contrasts with the wool of the blazer. I think that blue cords could also work with a blue blazer.

See, I thought this too. This reaction is simple to get to, but in practice if the blue bottom of me looks like the blue bottom of my top, the material is irrelevant.

I am going to learn to like my lighter wash jeans; I like the contrast better.

Jeans are functional wear for working class folk. For casual dress they look ridiculous.

^ So I guess I'm working class, now is there anything wrong with it?
See this is the problem here, you make this half...s statement that has nothing to do with the OP question.
Jeans must have been for working class in like the 1880s. Nowadays they're perfectly acceptable casual wear at least in the US, Europe and South America.

Clearly, you're still living in the early 20th century.

Still, I do not like denim with the classic navy blazer.
However, I think jeans can look good with other sport coats. For example, I have a brown donegal (I think) jacket that looks better with blue denim than with anything else.

This is a reasonable question which I have myself. My thoughts on the issue (note: I am an MCer so to speak, due to age if not for other reasons, have no idea if the below are SWD approved, would like to know though)

Navy (or darker) blazer or SC with faded/lighter than dark blue jeans or "normal" wash 501s and the like
Brown-brownish-tan SC with dark blue jeans, maybe not with lighter jeans fades
Dark blue jeans are born for leather jackets, whereas faded jeans with leather jackets maybe a bit dodgy (for an MCer at least)

I think there's enough contrast between denim and a wool blazer that it usually looks fine, unless maybe they are exectly the same shade of blue, which is pretty unlikely.

An expression of sarcastic surprise that someone in 2011 would wear such a common outfit.
