Hi, first post here. I was wondering if anyone knows whether IZOD neckties are made of real silk? It says 100% silk on it, but I picked it up for 8 bucks (retail $45). I don't silk is that cheap?

Probably real silk. Not nice silk like FROM Zegna or Kiton ect, but it will do the job.

Assuming it's a genuine Izod - not some tie purchased from a street vendor who also deals in $39 Rolexes - and it says it's 100% silk, then absent clear evidence to the contrary, I'd tend to believe it's made of silk.

This doesn't mean it's of particularly good quality, of course. Silk is like steak - some is much nicer than others, and "preparation" matters, too. That's why the steak you get at Golden Corral's All-You-Can-Eat $11 dinner buffet may indeed be steak, but perhaps not as tasty as the petite filet at Ruth's Chris.
