It was a joke based on your 'just lurking' which I take to mean ... watching without participating.

Whats to be confused about? It's a case of de gustibus non est disputandum, or: You like it, but I don't.
There's no question of me claiming you're wrong or I'm right, people should wear what they like.

Strictly speaking, of course, you're correct and we have no place passing judgment on subjective aesthetic issues. But to say that would be to suggest skepticism of good vs. bad taste in general, and your dislike of collar rolls is prima facie (latin! latin! i know it too!) evidence of a lack of familiarity with the subject.

They are only out of style when worn with an Hermes cartoon/icon tie (like acid washed jeans).

I'm very familiar with shirt and collar stylings. I already posted in another thread that I have made some of my own shirts and I'm well aware of it as an existing design and its place in, chiefly American, apparel. I don't remember claiming that it is a "wrong" design, but it's one I don't personally like. I also don't particularly like unlined collars, or trousers with turn-ups.

I don't think there's anything positive to be gained from implying that other people must be somehow ill-informed because they don't show the same level of enthusiasm for things that you happen to like.

4. eh, there's some fashion trends with spread collars, but the mainstream is always so slow to adopt that who really knows. button-downs do feel a little old-fashioned, but they were never a 'style'/fashion item anyway.

Ha! I have you all beat. I have some button-down semi-spread collars! I wouldn't wear them with a tie but they are quite spiffy for casual use even with a jacket.

I fear you are correct. Lately SF is filled with advice givers who know little to absolutely nothing about style. In fact, several of these types have posted in this thread.

Completely -- and sadly -- correct. I have noticed the same thing. When you have threads where I am the voice of wisdom and experience, you know that SF is in serious trouble.

surprised this noob question actually has 5 pages of replies. ofc they are not going out of style and they never will, they're the perfect collar for casual shirts. what a dumb question.
