Through searching it appears a company called wensum used to make some decent quality rtw suits for Aquascutum at least a couple of years ago.
Does anyone know anything about their current suits? Aquascutum seem to have more 'outlet centres' than actual stores and I'm wondering if they make cheap suits specifically for the outlets.

I can't comment on the outlet thing, but I have an Aquascutum suit from their regent street shop bought last year. As far as I can tell it is half canvased, the fabric feels nice and it is certainly a step above the austin reed number I had before.
My frame of refrence for comparisson is a little narrow as I don't wear a suit often so I don't own any that SF would regard as high quality, but to my eyes it holds up quality wise compared with RL blue label made in italy and hackett sports jackets I own. I am pretty pleased with it and would buy there again, also they get damn cheap in the sale.

IIRC, they have a Made in Italy line now and at least some of the stuff is made by Isaia.

I have seen some of their outlet/sale-only* suit - awful cloth (some ultra thin), a bit of shape, but overall poor quality. If I compared my Aquascutum sports jacket (Made in Italy) with the those suits, it would seem like someone is making fake Aquascutum.

The normal range is better; however, in my opinion the suits Wensum make for Gieves, E&R and probably Richard James are slightly better quality.

I do not know the current RRP of the normal Aquascutum range, but the RTW suits Wensum make for Hackett are cheaper than the suits made for Gieves, E&R and RJ. Although the Hacketts suit are slightly inferior (again my opinion), one could argue it is better value because of the price (the slightly better quality not worth the difference), especially when comparing with RJ prices.
The same could be said about Aquascutum, which was previously on par with the Hackett price, with taking all aspects into account (cloth, shape, quality and price) is better value.
