I recently bought a leather jacket from a thrift store. The brand is La Nouvelle Renaissance (the only information I could find on them indicated they were a women's-only clothing maker, but this is definitely a men's cut). The cuffs are folded-over and hang a bit beyond my wrist. Lapels are nonexistent. Anyway, I was wondering if any of you had experience with the tailoring cost to remove the lining and put a new one in. It, understandably, is developing holes rather quickly (40-year-old silk) and I don't actually have the inner liner.

The leather on this thing is amazing, though. Nary a hole or disfigurement, and it lived at Value Village for 6 months. Buttery-soft, smooth, and supple.

Cost varies by tailor.

Why not just go to one?

I don't want to waste the time if I know there is no way I can afford it right now.

I suppose, though, I will. I thought there might have been some roughly standard cost for this type of thing.

Nigel,

My tailor charges between $150 > 200 for a full lining (presuming you would want interior pockets replaced) and he would charge you aprox $38 for shortening sleeves.
Hope this helps you evaluate your investment. Good Luck!
