My girlfriend and I are being flown from Canada to Texas for one of her friends' birthday. Her boyfriend is paying for the flight and three nights in a condo at a resort & spa. My girlfriend bought her friend a nice girly birthday gift obviously but what am I supposed to do? I've met them twice...

What do I get them(him) to thank them? Am I expected to pay for everything (for them) once we get there? Do I just get them a nice bottle of booze? I really don't know what to do...

Pretty nice gesture, i.e. that dude is B.A.L.L.I.N. - you get him a small gift within your means and let him know you appreciate his generosity.

If I was the BF ad you gave me a nice bottle of booze, I would not be upset....
More info is needed....did they suggest paying or you?

Bottle would be a nice touch. If you can find out if he likes cigars, a couple (or a box) of his favorites would be good too, though i imagine it's a bit of a stretch to find that out. Bottle's probably the way to go.

More info... uhhh I guess my girl said 'Hey, x wants us to come down to Texas' and I said 'Cool' and a day later I had an email in my inbox with the flight & condo info. So really I didn't do/say/ask anything... it just happened.

So I guess I'll do that, a nice bottle of Canadian Whisky. Wish I knew about cigars.. but I really don't smoke them.

Thanks gents.

That would be good but you just don't know whether that opportunity will present itself on the trip. Regardless, I'd bring a nice bottle of something just in case...you don't want the weekend to be over and be wishing at that point that you had done something nice for the guy. If you're not checking bags (and therefore can't do the bottle), then do some digging to figure out what the guy would like. It wouldn't hurt to ask the gf to do a little recon for you.

was also thinking that. they may not have the time and you don't want to issue an IOU. a bottle NEVER fails...

The problem with booze is that you don't know (1) if he drinks, and (2) what he drinks. Setting up dinner is easy enough. Upon meeting the BF, say something like, "Thank you so much for your hospitality. As a small token of my gratitude, I'd like to take you and your GF out to dinner at some point during our trip. What day works best for you?"

suppose that during the 3 days, they have planned to be with others and won't have the time for a foursome?

Diner is also a good idea though I think I will stick to my guns with the bottle...

Maybe:

Sortilege is a unique blend of Canadian rye whisky and maple syrup.

Or is that cheesy?

Bottle of booze is the key. Do something local (not Molson Ice) like a local vodka or something. If you also just say that you appreciate him flying you there and putting you up, your gf is glad that she can be here with her friend and that you are looking forward to spending more time with them, you should be money.
