Hi All, in addition to our 1-to-1 consultation meetings here in our London office, we’ve increasingly had consultations over the phone, where customers were guided through the different steps of the ordering process and individual advice was provided (eg. what fabrics performs best for my profession, measurements Vs Shirt fit).
In order to decide whether or not to expand this service, we would be interested to know if this is something you’d consider of interest.
We look forward to your feedback!

Maybe a video call would work better

The Pin Collar

Collars are the most distinctive attribute of a made-to-measure shirt. They can be the most noticeable feature, highlighting the style of the shirt. Worn in a formal setting, with a tie or dressed down, with a sharp open collar. The collar sets the tone of a shirt.

Rarely found in ready to wear retailers, the Pin Collar, the classic design of the 1920's, remains a dominant style and a wardrobe staple for stylish men alike. Attaching the collar to a pin, the collar gave a better shape and neater look.

The archetype soft collar became customary, but a struggle to keep a tie in place due to the delicate fabrics used.
Still worn today in a variety of settings, the pin collar still adds a touch of sophistication to any outfit at any occasion.

The Best Fabrics in the World. Fact.
Supima Cotton Vs David & John Anderson

Supima® cotton

The Supima® cotton, also known as American Pima. Grown in California, because this premium plant requires a nice long growing season in a hot, arid environment. Rather than being rain-fed, Supima cotton plants need to be fully irrigated. It has a reputation for producing a smooth fabric that's soft to the touch, wrinkle-resistant, and ultra-durable.

Features of Supima® cotton
  • A stronger fiber that is twice as strong as regular cotton because the longer fibers have a higher resistance to pulling, breaking and tearing.
  • It will get softer as time passes because the extra long staple fibers produce a smoother and cleaner yarn that resists pilling.
  • By absorbing the dye into the fine fiber with a deep penetration, it retains the colour better even after multiple washes.

David & John Anderson

D&J Anderson offers a large range of the most precious shirt fabrics in the world. Its Sea Island Cotton: the élite Caribbean cotton has the exclusivity of production in Barbados, West Indies. The region’s perfect climate for cotton production; average rainfall and humidity contribute to the superior standard it presents. The light material is both incredibly strong and bright and is not affected by multiple washing. Shirts made with Sea Island cotton remain a good investment into the future since the fabric becomes softer over time. The silky feel and extraordinary brightness satisfies shirt wearers all over the world.

David & John Anderson Traits

  • David & John Anderson created Golden Jubilee – a fabric with the finest yarn in the world. Made from Giza 45 cotton and its 330/4 yarn count measurement, it is twisted four times instead of the standard two. This significantly outnumbers a Sea Island cotton shirt, that averages around 140/2. Totally revolutionary in its softness and durability, Golden Jubilee symbolises the prestige and reputation for which David & John Anderson are renowned.
  • As a subsidiary of Albini Group, David and John Anderson has been cultivating and distributing its own supply from Barbados since 1822. Together, with the expression of the maximum technology supplies, create the finest fabrics available, including the fabrics made with the world’s finest yarn; Cullinan, 300/2, and Millennium Star, yarn of 330/3's.

EMBROIDERED MONOGRAM

Once used to identify a man’s shirt at the laundry, monogramming is now much more of a personal choice.
Personalize your style with monogram embroidered on your shirt.

Keep it subtle, make it cheeky. How do you wear yours?

How to style a Striped shirt

Striped shirt2.png

Wearing stripes has not always been a welcome sight. In the middle of the 13th century, medieval writers thought that zebras were perceived as evil, and, up until around the 18th century, stripes were commonly associated with hangmen, clowns and the condemned.

Luckily times have changed. Today, stripes are worked onto shirts to positive affect and feature in myriad of colours and scales.
Experiment with colour and wide, bold stripes for off-duty days, select finer, more subtle stripes to wear with your suit and tie to the boardroom.

The Three Personalities of the Oxford Shirt

1585131368849.png

The Oxford is one of those shirts that will never go out of style, or service. It’s an essential for a reason: it looks good with jeans, suits and even special-occasion outfits, all year round. Here are the three Oxfords every man should own:
  1. The Classic Oxford. The most casual of Oxford fabrics. Originally developed for sportswear, it has a slightly thick and textured basket-weave and is very durable, which makes it the perfect counterpart to jeans or chinos.
  2. The Pinpoint Oxford. Finer than the classic Oxford, it’s a smart everyday option, and it’s smooth surface allows it to slip comfortably under suit jackets and ties.
  3. The Royal Oxford. As its name suggests, it’s the king of the Oxfords. A substantial heavy weave and shiny surface, it’s a strong contender in the dress shirt category. If you want to dress to impress, this is your shirt.

A glimpse of encouraging news; It’s thanks to new measures, and to people staying home, that we’re finally seeing a decrease in reported COVID-19 cases in Italy – and we at Apposta are striving to do our bit too.

In compliance with the new government’s measures, we will be suspending production from Thursday March 26th until Friday, April 3rd.

During this time, we are offering 20% discount on all orders.

With this view of looking forward, we’ve developed a range of sustainable Blended Cottons.
From Tencel-Cotton to bamboo, this conscious selection of fabrics are able to absorb moisture, supporting body thermal regulation to keep you cool and dry as the weather gets warmer.

The Printed Shirt Edit

1585318241168.png

Men have been donning decorative fabrics for over 100 years. This is because the shirt is sometimes the only place a man can express his personal style. With such poignancy in the wardrobe, it’s no wonder the Apposta patterned fabric selection is as diverse as ever, with classic to creative options.

Explore English gent stripes to playful polka dots to fashion-forward florals. Experience wide range of colors, from traditional office hues to head-turning tones for taking it twilight, in middle-weight to heavy fabrics ideal for the cooler seasons.

Experiment with a band collar for weekend or a pin collar for a polished look.

For someone who has always bought RTW shirts it would be most helpful if you could list a number of points that I should be thinking about when creating a MTM shirt, apart from the usual, type of fabric, colour, button down
thanks

Things to consider when creating a Made To Measure shirt.
  • Occasion - We have so many fabrics and styles available, it helps to categorise and eliminate options. Consider dress codes in regards to how formal or informal you can be.
  • Long term use - How many times can you wear a shirt with a different outfit? Consider other uses for your shirt beyond the 'initial debut'.
  • RTW Vs MTM - Consider fit issues you may have with RTW; Collar to sleeve length ratio, dropped shoulder, and how this can be rectified in relation to your body.
Other options like fabric, features and fit can be considered as personal preference and style. Change these up and define your your styling traits.
