anyone have apple tv? it's only about 120 here in canada and was wondering if it was worth it. I have a macbook, iphone, ipad etc so I was thinking the compatibility would be cool. also I would be jailbreaking it. I just want to know if anyone has it and would recommend it/if there's anything I should need to know before getting it?

also is the only way to watch movies through netflix? their canadian version is utterly garbage. thanks!

I've never had mine work correctly, it disconnects after 30 minutes or so, I have no idea why. It happens to others, never been able to get a straight answer as to why.

You can get Hulu and a bunch of podcasts as well as stuff you buy on the apple store. Unfortunately, the movies are not in the cloud right now, only the TV shows you get. Quality is good.

Ideally you are supposed tob e able to stream music from your computer, its just never worked right for me, it just disconnects all the time which is pretty useless.

The pictures on the TV kind of takes a while to load too.

I have the most recent generation (w/o the HD).

The most used item in my living room. I love the ******* thing, no problems on my end.

I take it on the road to hotels all the time. Most have wifi and an hdmi hook up nowadays.

If one had a NAS filled with non-iTunes acquired films/TV would the Apple TV work as a way to stream them?

Here's my setup:

Living room - Mac Mini running plex and plex media server (www.plexapp.com) hooked up to my biggest tv.

bedroom - Jailbroken AppleTV 2 running plex client to stream my library on my mac mini to my appletv. It works great. Jailbreaking the AppleTV to install plex is ridiculously easy too.

^ Just looked at that Plex website and god damn do they ask a lot of trust? Not a single proper explanation of how the software works, what kind you might actually need, or proper sepcs. Just a download button. I can't tell if this thing is perfect for me or totally useless without installing a ******* server package?!

I wont be derailing this thread any more but I have just experimented with flex. It has to be the least intuitive system I've ever played with. I should imagine that it is passable once you're used to it, but the language used, menu structure, "automating" bits that don't work, makes it damn near useless to me. I have been looking for a decent media centre for a while and this performs terribly compared to WMC and Apple offerings. Is it even supposed to work with file servers? I can't find a way to define a pathway to stored files.

If you can import them into itunes, then yes.

IDK how you can use Plex... I tried using it and wanted to kill myself after an hour. Its overly complex for no good reason, the UI just sucks in every way convincible. Ah well, good thing I'm not opinionated.

Care to elaborate? The UI is ridiculously simple. Did you use some really early version of it or something?

If one already has all Apple gear it should be OK, not so good otherwise. Think you can watch movies from iTunes as well with it.
