I think you were porbably thinking of "peasant" and from there went directly to "Communist"

Color is fine. At worst folks will think the coat is from a country with a brown-water navy. For a peacoat it looks rather short; I recall the typical length is mid-bum or a bit lower. Guess that makes it peacoat-like coat too.

I have a peacoat made in green, in shade closer to olive. The color is possibly less common than your brown when it comes to peacoats I think. I love wearing it because this particular bespoke peacoat is so elegant and also so practical too.

The color is great but everything else on this coat is off. Peak lapels aren't typical and no pocket flaps, just the slash pockets are needed. If you are tall enough for this sleeve length the jacket is too short. If the length is right the sleeves will be too long.

I say it really depends on your skin and hair color, some can pull this off
