Shipping and Import charges cost me 50% of the items.

I live in Canada so I can't help you but are you near the U.S. border? Only ask because I live close to the border (relatively speaking - 90 minute drive) and I use an American shipping receiving company on the USA side of the border that receives/holds my USA shipments. I cross the border with my receipt and pick up my shipment (they charge like $3 american/package). I often just get waved through by CBS without paying any taxes on my purchases. Don't know if that would be feasible for you.

Do you need a US address to do that? And how do you explain your purpose for half hour US trip?

I simply use the USA shipping company address with my name on the package. I have an account set up with the USA shipping company so they know to phone me once my package is received by them. I live in Kelowna B.C. and the USA shipping/receiving company is located in Oroville Washington (population 1600). This tiny town has like 3 separate shipping/receiving companies because so many Canadians cross the border to pick up their packages. I can explain the short trip because I have my receipt. I really only get questioned by the American border guards because they are usually shocked I am traveling all this way just to pick up some simple item like shoe polish. After I explain Allen Edmonds wants to charge me $80US for international shipping it is kind of self explanatory (I rip down on my motorcycle and fuel up on the USA side with gas so the trip cost me like $15). The Canadian border side is easier as they seem much less suspicious of my activities and frequently they simply wave me through without making me pay taxes. I googled Toronto area and there is this service called crossborder pickups - may be worthwhile to look into that. Sorry don't know how to embed a link

Well, I thought Canadian border would ask you to declare the value of the items you take from US. They did not even ask you that?

Yeah CBS always ask the value of the goods I'm bringing back - I'm too nervous to lie - don't want to be strip searched. The last 2 trips the value of my goods was under $100 US and they just waved me through. Didn't have to go in and pay the taxes. I don't know if its just to keep the line moving and not worth collecting the taxes but I don't complain.

The place I use in Oroville Washington is not a franchise. Just a little mom and pop outfit. This place is in Niagra Falls

Not sure what the nearest border crossing is for you but I would imagine there are loads of USA receiving companies doing the same for Canadian shoppers.

Yep, I found that company, thank you. Just one more question, why don't you just ship the item to Canada if it is under $100..... The value of a pair of AE is already much higher than that.

Well for the Allen Edmonds stuff it was for shoe polish only. My order for polish and conditioner came to like around 70US. Allen Edmonds wanted to charge me 80US for international shipping. Holy shit (and with Allen Edmonds they ship within the USA for free!). Well dammit when shipping costs exceed the cost of my goods I really have to think about whether or not the order is worth it. I'm really anal about colour matching my shoe polish to my Allen Edmonds shoes so shit! - I need my polish. For my other sub $100 purchase it was for prescription eyeglasses. Recently for my eyeglasses I have started to head down to the mall to try on prescription glasses - find a set I like and take a photo of the model number (little numbers on the inside of the arm). I do a google search with the model number to see if I can purchase them online for cheaper. Found some Ogi glasses at LensCrafters that were $240 for the frames alone. Found a seller on Amazon.com that was selling them for $59 US but did not ship to Canada. So I had them shipped to Oroville and saved a bundle. I'm a cheap bastard.
