Anyone get a WW Chan mailer for the March trip?

Just wondering what the specials are this time through.  Seems like they had the same VBC materials at the same prices for a couple of years before they had Loro Piana in November.

Was going to make the same post myself, "Retro," as soon as I got back from the SHOT Show in Las Vegas, but I see you beat me to it. At least we're in the same boat.

I might mention that my new Chan suit elicited any number of compliments at the SHOT Show. One friend (who knew nothing about my getting it) sprang from his booth as soon as he saw me to feel the quality. (He then began boasting about the Bangkok suit he was wearing that had cost only $165. Diplomacy and friendship kept me from mentioning its fit was horrible--the jacket collar extended above his shirt collar in the back.) Even total strangers in the casino complimented me on how nice I looked in that suit.

I've got a Sunday morning appointment in BH. Maybe some of the forum regulars who have appointments around that time could get together for lunch.

I haven't gotten the mailer yet, but their website shows their schedule. I get compliments on my chan suits all the time. In fact I had dinner with a family friend (gallery owner) the other night, and when the check came he passed it over to me and said "if you can afford that suit, you can afford to buy me dinner."

How long is the wait for a Chan suit? More importantly, seeing that there are no fittings involved, how good a job do they do with just one set of initial measurements?

I ordered my first Chan suit during the firm's U.S. visits last November. This morning, I received an e-mail letting me know the suit had just been shipped and would arrive in about a week. I'm not sure, however, if this is typical. Perhaps more established Chan clients could weigh in.

A couple of years ago it took about 6 weeks from order to receipt on the US trips, now it seems to be closer to 2-3 months. I blame this forum for the extended lead time.

Vintage, that sounds right. I always get an email telling me the suit will arrive in approximately one week, and it sometimes arrives much sooner than a week from that notification.

Panzeraxe--they do a very good job from bare measurements. There are some things, like button stance, gorge height, or amount of waist suppression, that may come out slightly different from your preference, but if you give them very precise instructions, and let them examine a favorite suit at the time of first fitting, this is less likely to happen. They nailed the measurements for me on the first suit, but put the button stance and gorge height slightly lower than I like--when I say slightly lower we are talking about an inch or so. The suit looks fine to everyone I've asked, but I adjusted future orders.

I do remember advising you to give them a try, and I'm very glad it worked out for you. What fabric and style did you end up choosing?

It would be great to have a forum get-together around their trip, but I doubt I'll be able to make it out on that Sunday. I usually end up making an appointment so that I can sprint in and out from downtown during my lunch hour.

From what I have read here regarding their somewhat limited in-person measuring, I do not understand why a person could not send them detailed pictures (even a video file) along with required measurements and requested style details.

Would that not sufficiently match what they do in person?

There are really a lot of measurements that they take that would be hard to replicate. It's more than just what you give for a shirt. Getting the scye measurement alone right would be tough.

That is why I haven't tried places like the various Ravis Tailor sites or other "mail us your measurements" places. If you pick a VBC fabric and price out a suit on the Ravis sites, it is cheaper than WW Chan (surprisingly, not as much cheaper as I would have thought). But there is no way that a suit made from self-taken measurements is going to fit as well as something constructed from measurements taken by a knowledgeable person.

I was measured at the Chan November visit, and I had the impression that I could have gotten the suit relatively quickly--a month or so, not 2-3. But I wanted to have a fitting before they finished it, so I have to wait for the March visit for that, and presumably will get the suit a few weeks later.

I am impatient, and want to get my suit.

Retro, I thought I had thanked you already on my earlier thread about getting my Chan suit. I got a two-button in midnight blue in LP Super 120 that was on special. I had thought to get a three-button, but Mr. Chu advised me to go with a two-button. I pretty much went along with all his suggestions and was glad I did. In my earlier post I think I mentioned that I would have liked more waist suppression, but in retrospect, I'm very satisfied with the suit "as is." I am merely debating what to order on the March visit.

Jester, Mr. Chu sure didn't indicate to me that the wait would be for a month. When I was measured in November, he said that I could expect a delivery in February. I pleaded with him to get it to me in time for the major trade show in my industry at the end of January, and they came through in the nick of time.
